Pulled up an old photo from Yosemite in 2012. Wanted to try a new Photoshop editing technique. Definitely see the power of Shadow/Highlights. Wish I had known about it a long time ago!
Photo was taken from the Upper Yosemite falls trail (which is hellish, but beautiful).
Think I'll try to edit a few of these shots from this series for print. Would make a room look really good with a cohesive consistent theme.

I want to say that tone mapping is a more traditional HDR technique with layering bracketed images or something of the like, but a lot of the time this tool accomplishes the same thing just as well, especially if you can figure out how to work the radius and tonal width sliders to your advantage. Deftness really is paramount with this tool though. it can save an image, and it can absolutely wreck it too. :O Usually I use it in conjunction with the Recovery and Fill Light tools in the PS raw editor to get things more precisely where I want them. Definitely helps to split the load between a couple tools, at least for me. :) Best of luck going forward. Hope this discovery helps your editing process out.
