A couple of years ago, over the summer, I drove to Yellowstone and passed through a couple of ghost towns - Virginia City and Nevada City, if I remember correctly. There aren't any magpies where I live, and the memory that stands out most to me (other than their boldness) is the sounds they make - to me, it sounds a lot like laughing. I tried to embody that here in a fantasy painting of a magpie as a comedian - it would certainly cheer me up to hear those magpies again!
I'm going to try to sell this at Rainfurrest this year :3
I most likely won't be doing any more oil painting in the near future, but I'll certainly be playing with acrylics more now that I remember how much fun painting is.
