just like real life isnt it? Instead of really trying to help you, or finding ways how to reach your goals in life, people often enough just tell you, how impossible it is and that you should actually not even try it, but do something that is more "realistic" instead.
Well, it's very probably she really can't fly--barring the use of a Power, or Whip-like levitation, her wings appear to simply be too small for a mammalian creature to fly using them. Real bat wings don't thin where they meet the body; they widen dramatically.
Harmony, on the other hand, has very large wings, and has an exoskeleton rather than an endoskeleton.
All in all, she shouldn't be able to achieve true flight, and gliding looks rather unlikely as well.

Like the new character design there with the gyrapha-ma-deer thing-a-ma-bobber.
I have to admit, though. There could be numerous motivations as to why she wants to fly, as the psychiatrist suggests. She might be after the experience of flight, or she might be motivated by the social jeering of her peers, who claim she can't fly. If she's just after the experience, someone with wings like Igarath (there have to be other DKs with wings like those) could aid her, but if she's after disproving her classmates, this would only hurt her. Without understanding the motivation for why she wants to fly, an alternative solution is impossible and even though whip seems fully capable of defying gravity, I personally have doubts about the aerodynamic strengths of those wings. They're almost like smaller versions of what the Myotians have in Paul Lucas' The Shattered Sky. They may slow her fall, but only just enough to cripple her for life and not enough to deal a fatal blow.
