So, needed a brief break from everything - tried out some colour theories i've been working on....and went to my spooky place (like Luna, Forest Dweller, etc)...A bit like the Lila pic as well - starting with a group of colours rather than an idea or a drawing...
Basic colour theory here is to have a cental colour and then as you go to the neighbouring colours on either side the saturation and values go down, and again for the colours as they continue to get further away from the central colour. Then you can throw in an accent colour that is directly opposite of the central colour - that is also somewhat low saturation.
So the central colour here is the blue sky, and the tourquise and purple-magenta robes of the wanderer are the two neighbour colours. The red and orange and green and yellow-green further neighbours are literally on opposite sides of the pic (both are a bit too high saturation here - that will change when i get to do a final version of this pic). The yellow and yellow-orange and yellow green moths/birds are the accent colour.
There are a couple other versions of the composition (one tall, one long) - not sure which version i will end up going with...Took a little over two hours to do all the versions...
Back to more Raffa in a couple days... ^_^

Thanks! i'm curious to see how the finished pic turns out..i'm going to blow-up the wanderer and print that out and then refine that as a line drawing, scan that back in and digi paint it....the sort of over-all style i want for the pic is something like the art from "Odin Sphere" but with a more "painterly" style....something eerie and spooky being the mood...a lonely sojourn through the haunted magical night...
Thanks!
i think good colour harmony is like a melody - there is no formula - you just sing. But there is a theory to do what colours work safely together without being garish - that's what i'm investigating - harmonic consonance and controlled dissonance - the chords under the melody.
