Hey everybody! I know I'm pretty new here, so it seems silly that my first post wouldn't even be complete. However, complete or not, it marks a turning point for me and my art.
I'm a classically trained artist in traditional drawing medium (specifically graphite and charcoal). While I have done quite a bit of digital work over the last 6-7 years, I always had trouble using a tablet and PC. Firstly, I'm not looking at my drawing utensil. The separation between the image and the tools always created a dissonance and I felt like I lost part of what made my art so me. Secondly, I have used very few pieces of software that really spoke to my artistic sensibilities. I used photoshop, sketchbook and a few others, but I was alway trying to create clean line work like I saw on everyone else's DA page.
But I'm not an inker. I am a sketcher. Today I think I finally found the application and hardware combo that translates to my style. This was drawn using Tayasui Sketches on an iPhone 5 with a 99¢ stylus from Walgreens. So, given how well it went with the limitations of my equipment, Monday I will begin shopping for an iPad and high end stylus.
What the future holds for me is no long messy charcoal and lugging around tons of pencils, paper, erasers and the like. The future shows me with one device with software that truly lets my artistic voice shine through.
