not all steampunk is just gluing gears something (personal I hate that its not very creative)

I don't like that kind of steampunk too. If I see gears somewhere the have to do something. But this gun looks like the traditional way to make a steampunk weapon: buy nerf paint brass color

not everyone can afford machining tools or find brass/copper parts cheap and near by, I have a pair of goggles that I want brass leaf (AKA Dutch gold patent) on instead of painting

I agree. Just sticking gears on something and not at least making it look like they have a purpose is just lazy. I can at least say that everything I make looks like it does something. Even if it doesn't.
