Track Successions
By Dealia Devilbliss
Trand, a simple young teenage cheetah who like his fellow high school students had hopes and dreams.
Then one day he had seen the captain of the track team stapling a piece of paper on the wooden board next to the trophy case, well out of curiosity he approached it then read the words “Track Try Outs”.
It was a signup sheet to something he had dreamed of doing then he signed his name on the first spot on the sheet, but almost immediately after he had finished writing it a couple of the senior track stars had said to him “do you really think coach is going to let a queer run on his team?” in quite a sarcastic manner though he ignored it and just walked away from the two.
Over the next few days before the day of the tryouts Trand trained hard and long to reach his goal of being the first gay male to run on the track team, even though at school the teachers and students criticized him for going after his goal.
They called him names pushed him around; took his things; even punched him, though throughout all of that he kept training for the day that he’d show them all that anyone could be good at something.
Thursday had arrived and Trand was ready to compete for a place on the track team, he wore the provided attire that the teams practiced in but he was pushed to the bottom of the tryout list since the school had discriminated against his sexual preference.
When his name was finally called after hours of him waiting in the locker room and being talked down to by his fellow competitors and students, when he stepped out of the locker room doors the crowd had changed its opinion of him thanks to a female friend of his who was on the cheer squad.
He stepped up to the starting line and looked to the track coach who had in his possession the time clock and roster sheet, then he started running at full speed and showing everyone who had been bullying him for the past week that he could do it.
When he rounded the final turn on the track he gave it his all, knowing full well he could do it then he crossed the finish line with amazing speed and endurance.
Soon the coach looked to Trand and said “you just posted the school’s fastest time on track, though you may be considered gay to your fellow students. You have earned my respect as well as a well earned reward for chasing and taking your goal by force” he said with a tear in his eye.
