(@ADMIN, you guys should add a culinary category.)
Yes, you read that correctly, green eggs and ham. Real green eggs and ham.
Specifically, a green colored quiche with ham.
A quiche (pronounced 'Keesh') is essentially an egg and cheese pie. A few eggs, some half and half, a half pound of cheese, and whatever else you wanna add.
For this recipe, you will need:
4 eggs
1 cup half and half
1 pie crust
About 2 cups / 8 ounces of cheese. Shredded works best
Green food coloring
About 1 cup / 4 ounces of ham. Small diced works best.
Pepper (optional)
Spoon or fork, mixing bowl, oven mitt, pan or a foot of aluminum foil, knife and spatula.
1) First, preheat the oven to 350o F / 177o C
2) In a bowl, beat together the 4 eggs. When they are thoroughly beaten, add the half and half and mix it together. Also add a few dashes of pepper if you want.
3) Add a few drops of green food coloring and mix it in. Just a few drops will do. More if you want a darker color. I added 10 drops to get this color.
4) In the pie crust, put about half or a cup of cheese on the bottom. I'm sure cubed cheese would work, but shredded works best.
5) Pour the egg mixture in. Now get the ham.
6) I originally picked up a pack of pre diced ham. But because of money constraints, I found Spam instead. I haven't had it in so long, but saw an off brand just next to it for half the price. Made with the same things, so I got that instead. 2 cans, essentially costing me the same amount, heh. This stuff just tastes like bologna, so please get yourself some real ham. Dice the ham into small pieces if it isn't already diced.
7) Add the ham to the mixture, and top with the remaining cheese. Carefully mix together.
8) The mixture may be at the very edge of the crust. Don't worry, it won't spill over. Or it shouldn't... If the quiche isn't already on the pan, carefully put it on the pan and put it in the oven. Otherwise, get some aluminum foil and place it in the oven, then carefully put the quiche on that. This is to prevent the quiche from spilling over, but it shouldn't do that.
9) Since the oven is already hot at 350 / 177 degrees, set your timer for 45 minutes. Now we play the waiting game...
...
...TIME'S UP!
10) Careful, it's hot! Carefully take out your quiche and let it set for a while. 5 minutes should do. Enjoy!
Serves 2 - 6
Notes:
--If you're impatient, 40 minutes should be enough.
--You don't have to use that much cheese if you don't want to. I know some, like myself, are lactose intolerant. Doesn't stop me for still eating it though, lol.
--You don't have to use ham for a quiche. Only the eggs, cheese, and the half and half. I'm sure other ingredients, like chicken or spinach, would work.
--You don't have to use food coloring. Except, you know, if you want your eggs and ham to be green. Or whatever color.
--If you want, you can half the amount of cheese used, and use the other half for another quiche.
--If you use an ingredient that was prepared in water, or one that absorbs a lot of water like mushrooms, make sure to squeeze out all the water first.
--Sam was awesome. That other guy was a fool. Green eggs and ham are great!
Enjoy!
