I just recently learned these were called grass spiders and not the commonly referred wolf spider.

Wolves are fatter then the Grasses. But their markings are why they are confused. (including confusing me!)

I learned this is INDEED a wolf spider :o

Why is everyone hating on the poor thing? XD They're nice lil guys! I used to have a couple that lived in my window when I lived at my old house....The first grew to have a larger legspan than a quarter and had a sheet web that was over a foot across! I named him Harry XD Then I had another move in by him and I decided that one was female and was named Phillis...I dunno why XD
Actually, you have that backwards. This IS a wolf spider.
Rather than looking at fatness (which can vary by sex and also gravidness), you should be looking at the eye arrangement.
Note the two very large prominent eyes on the front, and the two other large eyes on the sides of the head. There should also be a row of four smaller eyes below the two front (wouldn't be visible from this angle).
Grass spiders and other funnel weavers tend to have a cluster of smaller eyes on the front of the face.

Wolf spiders are among my favorite.
I have mostly these guys at home http://bugguide.net/node/view/6919
one is kinda close to my bed too >.> I will move it only if it has an egg sac... so far nothing... and hope it remains like that XD I wouldn't want to wake up with a bunch of baby spiders staring at me XD
