The SCA is the society for creative anachronism. We chose the portions of the Middle Ages we wish to reenact. Amongst which is armored combat with sword and shield. The armor is 12 to 16 gauge steel the swords are rattan so that if they shatter they don't produce sharp, potentially dangerous fragments.
And if there are any photos they were on film and are in some shoebox on some dusty shelf in the back of the garage, lost at least for the time being.

It's quite fun to leave the mundane world on Friday afternoon and spend a weekend camping out in another era. Taking on a different identity, and a fabricated history, and playing a part in a completely improv play.
Should I find any of those ancient pictures (they are around 30 years old now) I will scan and post a few, and make sure to let you know that they are up.

I've not been to an SCA event in nearly 20 years now. I keep my ties with the local group and have written a couple of articles for their arts and sciences newsletter, but my armor is badly rusted from long disuse....
The current "sorta girlfriend" and I cross dressed for a walk last month. It was just a silly thing that we completely "spur of the moment" decided to do as we were changing from Sunday morning fancy brunch cloths into hiking along a groomed established trail cloths. My stuff fit rather loosely on her and fortunately the sundress she planned to wear had elastic gathers so it had enough give to just fit me.
Rattan is a wood that behaves like a bundle of strings laying side by side. It is very strong and still quite flexible so it's forgiving of being beaten against hard surfaces. If it breaks it literally looks like hundreds of broken pieces of fine string, nothing jagged or sharp. These properties make it ideal for a practice weapon.
