This was sitting on my screen for a week now. Only 2 or 3 of those days was actually used to make this. And by days, I mean hours.
I was ready to get rid of this. Could be better, but it came out alright.
I wanted to make this for 2 reasons. One, it's hard. By hard I mean: not symmetrical, it's an organic model, meaning the model usually have to be smooth flowing and has complex shapes, and sometimes random texturing patterns. Yeah, that's right, I intentionally picked something that wasn't easy.
Second, I want to get better at displacement modeling / mapping. The raw model itself is extremely simple. What you are seeing is multiple smooths, and 3 layers of texture influences (displacement).
A little thick, and the grooves aren't as deep as I wanted them. Not to mention, the lackluster ground, but mostly the dark lighting. Not sure if I'll go back and mess with this or not. I was trying to attempt subsurface scattering, but don't really know much about it, and got tremendous noise from it, so just used gloss instead.
As usual, don't steal, copy, edit, etc.
Want something, just ask.
