This is going in my scraps because REASONS.
Anyways, the drawing on the left was done March 12th, 2013. The one on the right, March 25th, 2014. Considering that, at the time I drew the left one, I thought it was very good, I think I've improved a lot since then. I've still got room for improvement, though, and the change isn't as "drastic" as I'd like for it to be. But that's why I keep drawing, I suppose.
Anyways, as far as what it is I've drawn: Yes. I am aware he does not "look" like a Pikachu. He is the main character of a story/comic I've long wanted to write/illustrate for a long time, and yes, there is an in-story, plot-relevant reason why he looks more feline than rodent, as common Pikachus are based on mice and not lions. He is obviously more feline-based, and I did this on purpose. (Also, because I like it, and I draw what I like.)
I once tried to sketch the first "page" of this comic and was overwhelmed and surprised by how much effort it was, just to sketch it all out. Maybe my pages were too big, or maybe I wasn't ready to tackle that amount of work yet, but it never saw the light of day, and if I were to ever pick it back up, I'd definitely have to redraw it, as it- like the drawing on the left- is over a year old and very much outdated in my art skill and/or style.
I mostly started this redraw because I wanted to improve my expressions/headshots, and I remembered how hard I had focused on, over a year ago, Sigma's expressions when I made this ref sheet, trying especially hard to make every single view look like the same character (something I still struggle with), focusing on what makes the character stand out- i.e. the specifically angular cheeks, the square-like chin with mild scruff, the specific shape of the eyes, etc etc. So this was more practice for that, and once I had the headshots done, I just had to draw the body and finish it. :P I'll admit I'm not 100% happy with how the head on the body turned out, but I was tired and too lazy to fix it.
Aaaanyways... Long rant is long. :U Sketchy is sketchy, pokeymans is pokeymans.

at first i didn't see much of a difference in them besides the pose from the thumbnail, now actually looking at it, it's a bunch of little things that i'v already been seeing little by little with this years pics that make the characters you draw better i loved your stuff before and seeing little things that make your style even better i just love seeing that. with this compared to last year, the character there's more fur to him indeed a better muzzle shape, and tail, the character itself doesn't look flat, looks more lively more calm and not as stiff as the old i guess what i like the most is the shape of the body. with the shape of his legs paws and from neck to his butt he looks like he could defiantly run fast, give some nice kicks and has a pretty good amount of strength to him as well.
while the old shape yes he could run decently doesn't look like he would have much power in the legs and so on over all in battle he just wouldn't maneuver as well or as quickly as your current style one.
a beautiful and great amount of improvement is seen here tig and it can only go up from that
