Chris Grant and I had discussed before taking apart one of his hover tanks. I wanted the scene to end up looking more disasterous though.

I like how amid all the detail and mech tech, a simple set of exclamation points so well shows the 'strange noises' coming out of the tank.

In was only into two cartoons.
Both times the three friends were mechanics working for Pete.
When the care or truck had a weird squeak in it, they tore the whole thing apart just to find that the sound was either a cricket chirping in the tire or a rubber duck stuck in the undercarriage.
Made for a big fun gag.

Actually, I've always been inspired by the opening illustration of a 1969 book titled "VW repair for the complete Idiot" which shows a 1967 VW beetle completely taken apart and every piece shown in close to perfect detail. I've wanted to do the same thing to machines from steam engines to starships.
