So, I had a very rare occurrence last night. I had a dream of a story that had so much clarity, that I wish I could have written the whole thing down as I was having it.
I don't really like scary movies and such, but I do actually really like sad stories, but this story was the epitome of sad. As soon as I woke up I wrote down as much of it as I could remember, and I figured I'd draw a quick sketch of one of the scenes I saw in it.
---story
The story began somewhere along the lines of some of the events post-Starfox Command. Fox and Wolf are still rival squads, and Krystal has moved on to become more involved with Panther Caruso. Fox began to understand that the safety of the Lylat was what he really strives for, and had already moved on emotionally with the help of friend Falco. While the main villains are quelled, Fox and his allies handle some of the galaxy-threatening tasks.
(moving along) During one of Fox's personal scouting missions back on Sauria, he makes contact with Wolf, who is trying to gather as much information on newer member Krystal as he can. They begin to spar physically rather than aerodynamically, and Wolf is impressed with how agile Fox is. Fox ends up besting him with a powerful punch, and suddenly sees an incredibly insecure side of Wolf that he had never seen before. 'Big bad Wolf was beaten up by a little pipsqueak' is how he envisioned it. Fox felt sorry for him, realizing that Wolf's goals were merely to try and impress. In a way, Fox sensed that Wolf was without love or compassion. Fox gave Wolf a quick hug and offered the chance to meet with him and spar again. Fox truly wanted to understand Wolf more, and he felt that he would be the best person to help Wolf overcome his insecurities. Wolf seemed puzzled, he was unsure of how he felt. In the end he took Fox up on his offer.
As they began to meet more and more, Wolf began to feel more fulfilled. However, instead of feeling powerful over his own crew, he began feeling like he was weak. He leads one of the best rebel crews of the Galaxy, yet he hangs around with the goody-two-shoes of another?
Fox on the other hand was incredibly open with his crew and his experiences. To no surprise, Falco was incredibly supportive. He would do anything to see his buddy happy. He was slightly cautious however. Falco planned ahead to meet Wolf at one of their sparring locations to speak with him in person. Luckily, he managed to catch Wolf at the spot early, eagerly awaiting Fox's arrival. Wolf was quite hesitant to talk to the giant ego that is Falco, but soon began to open up due to his weak emotional side. Falco quickly saw the weakness in Wolf that Fox described, and knew that he would expect no harm from him. Falco was curious though about one thing. "If this is how you really feel, why do you put up with this 'rebel' act? You have already been shown that you are welcome on the split side." Wolf felt an obligation to his 'tough man' reputation and his crew, and wasn't ready to give such a thing up.
(moving along) Wolf's crew began to notice the absence of Wolf at odd times as well, but since Wolf was so private about these matters, they had no clue. They began to snoop around until they found clues of the rendezvous with Fox. This upset them greatly, especially Leon, who carried great bitterness for the Starfox crew over his many years of service to Wolf. He carried one of the same views that Wolf carried not too long ago. He felt that Wolf was being weakened as a leader by hanging around with do-gooders. Leon came up with the same plan that Falco did, to try and meet Fox early... but to kill him. He got the support of the other members aside from Krystal, who he knew would never do such a thing.
Leon tried on many occasions to reach Fox alone... but Wolf was always there early. It wasn't until three or four times that they managed to catch Fox on the very planet that they first met personally: Sauria.
Fox was confronted by the crew and immediately assaulted. They needed to dispose of him quickly before Wolf arrived. However, instead of simply shooting him and finishing the task right away, they fell onto their cruel ways and beat Fox senseless. Fox could not fight the whole crew by himself, and soon fell, concussed and unable to stand up. Wolf had just arrived and heard the commotion, and stumbled upon the assault.
Wolf was thrown into a rage by what his crew had done. He began flailing left and right, pummeling and demolishing his own crew, one member at a time. Leon realized the Wolf was beyond reason and began to fear the strength of Wolf that he was trying to protect. He pulled out his pistol and began firing wildly at him. He had managed to his Wolf multiple times in the abdomen, but Wolf was still able to charge up and bashed Leon's head into the ground, killing him.
It had begun raining and Wolf began tending to Fox. Wolf began feeling hazy blood poured out of his gun wounds. Wolf soon fell unconscious. Fox tried to awaken him, but was unable to. He stopped Wolf's bleeding as well as he could, and sent out a distress signal to his crew. He had begun to hear much of the wildlife of Sauria approach. The smell of their presence had begun attracting carnivores.
As the time passed, Wolf's crew, unconscious or dead, were pulled off by hungry predators. Fox soon knew that they would be next if his crew didn't arrive in time. He began to think about his course of action, and what he could do at this point. He noticed that Wolf had his own transmitter on him. If he wasn't able to be saved, he still wanted to tell Wolf something he had been meaning to tell him since the beginning, or at least have a message of his last words.
<My father once told me: value the lives of those that you love more than you value your own... You will live... I promise... and if I don't see you again... I'm sorry that I wasn't strong enough... I know the reputation you're trying to uphold... and I'm sorry your crew never understood... but you're always welcome with my crew... and with me... See you soon... I love you...>
Fox wanted to teach Wolf about compassion and caring for others. Wolf would feel the love he desired if he shared this more often... or if he couldn't, he would always have Fox.
Without much resistance Fox was dragged away into the darkness. Just missing the crucial moment, Fox crew arrives and fends off the predators... but Fox was already gone. They found him torn to shreds not too far away.
With great grief, they retreat with only Wolf in hand. As Wolf awakens a couple days later, he is thrown into panic over the safety of Fox. Falco speaks to him alone and breaks him the bad news. For the first time in Wolf's entire life, he breaks into tears. Falco tries to comfort him as best as he can, carrying great grief himself, but is unable to. As Wolf begins to calm down he begins to contemplate quietly, until he notices his transmitter blinking across the room. He picks it up and begins to play the only message on it... apparently from himself. He opens it and sees Fox's pummeled face, with a relaxed expression. He sits through Fox's message, and is overwhelmed with emotion. Wolf felt a new obligation in his life, for Fox to live on through him.
(moving along) Wolf fill's Fox's place on the crew, with his massive experience as a pilot. He tries his best to fill the emotional gap with Falco and the others, but struggles to do so.
Each night he would play the message Fox left him, as it is the only source of true love that he has come to realize, and doesn't feel himself capable of receiving it anywhere else... He lives on through this strain, contemplating suicide each day, with only the sound of Fox's voice keeping him going. Hopefully he will be able to fill the void someday, but not now.

Ahh... well that was tough. I think I actually cried a little after I woke up. Since it was a dream, it may not be as clear linear wise as I would like, but I didn't want to make stuff up in the middle to make everything work. I just thought that I would share this, because sometimes I really want to share some stories I stumble upon. I'm not really a writer, but I don't see the harm of trying!

Buddy, this was insanely deep.. Im jealous, Ive only wished I could have such an emotionally stimulating dream like that about my OTP. I think that this dream is a sign, bud. It seems shipping this pairing is something that you're meant to do! Dreams with this much clarity are some serious business no doubt
I actually have Starfox dreams all the time because of how long and often I've loved the characters, this combination just hasn't arrived for me before (in a dream at least).
I actually just got a really nice new tablet to learn painting and stuff, so I was actually going to start making some more serious ideas that I had, especially Starfox related, Stuff that I could actually add to a portfolio. I think it will be pretty interesting :)
