Okay, so here's one of the extra bits of my submission for  sanctumpolis--as per my usual, I made the characters in a still-frame. This is how I design a lot of my characters, to get a feel for them so to speak.

The one on the left is Caxton Cadwell, the main protagonist of Sanctum Polis, and overall cute fellow. His outfit was a bit hard to render until I used both his artwork, and sprite as a guide. Had to add an extra shade of brown to get the dark color of his uniform just right, but I think it turned out really well.

Now, on the right is the character I designed for this contest, Marylise Alding--pronounced sort of like Marylin.
She's a human, and quite timid due to mental/physical abuse against her appearance. In the world of Sanctum Polis, humans are rare, and not very well liked.

On the bottom is the pose from the mock-up, where Marylise grabs Caxton's wrist as he walks away.
Her ribbon is clenched tightly in her hand as she wears a sad, lonely expression. Caxton isn't sure what to think, but doesn't seem afraid.
