I figured I'd take a moment to discuss my theory on where the Mega Mushroom came from. But first a little history on this amazing power up Nintendo graced us with in 2006.

Did you know that New Super Mario Bros.(Nintendo DS) was not the first game to feature the Mega Mushroom's attributes? As a matter of fact, the Mega Mushroom's destructive power actually made its first appearance in Super Mario 64 DS. Players were granted it's power through the Super Mushroom that could be found in some courses if the fourth star or farther was played. The transformation into giant that the Mega Mushroom grants made it's first appearance in Mario Party 3 in a mini game where a player could only win by grabbing a Super Mushroom and stomping the other players. As for the reason the Mega Mushroom exists, it was all thanks to Super Mario 64 DS for the creation of this item.

Now for my theory. Where did the Mega Mushroom come from? But Darkenergy you said it yourself, it came from Super Mario 64 DS and New Super Mario Bros. It originated form those titles. What I mean is, "Where did the Mega Mushroom come from?" If you remember what the original super mushroom looked like, it appeared as an ordinary mushroom that had an orange head with red spots just like the Mega Mushroom does. Another thing to note is fungus gradually gets bigger over time. So, in theory this means that all the Super Mushrooms from 1985 that Mario and Luigi never picked up, do to Fire Flowers, were left inside their boxes and were never picked up. And over a course of time these left behind mushrooms got bigger, also changing the effects they produced. Twenty-one years later when Mario set out to save Princess Peach in New Super Mario Bros.(DS), he rediscovered the original Super Mushroom. Only it had grown into the Mega Mushroom, and instead of creating the effects of its original nature it changed Mario into a giant that could smash his way through obstacles and squash any boss with a single stomp. That's my theory anyway.
