Just a lot of holes. Note a short string of them on the left rear fuselage. I would imagine, though, that bullet holes wouldn't be enough. But if a few of them conked out the engine she may have plowed into the surf a little hard.

perhaps I should have used 'paddle' instead of 'float. If I remember right a paddle is included with a raft like that.

I should hope so! It isnt a nipple, so the only other thing it might be is a crossbow arrow and that would be a real tragedy.
