WIP. Experimental painting for a friend who likes succulents and fantasy themes.
The dragon's colors are pretty explosive right now, I'm going to mellow them out a bit with acrylic glazes. At 9" x 12", this will be the biggest painting I've finished in a long time, I'm trying to break away from my habit of painting tiny things all the time. Lots of rubbing alcohol splashed about it the background.

I don't hate the colors, I suppose, it's just that the shading on the scales is a little bit much. My plan was to shade them more than I usually would, then go over them with some acrylic washes to mellow it out and make it look somewhat glossy. It worked pretty nicely, the dragon' color is still pretty vibrant, but not so much. The wings are still mostly the same color, but with markings. He's almost done, I'll upload him later after I give him another look over.
I like colors that are fairly bright, but still sort of earth toned, not over saturated. Hence working on tan, grey and brown paper so much.
