As I've said before, this building was meant to be a railway station (as you can imagine) but as I've said before, the railway never reached Dartmouth! (hence the engineering difficulties). Yes, a landing stage had been built for the ferry (adjacent to the building itself) but to this day, it serves as a cafe.

The Torbay & Dartmouth Railway. This company was taken over by the Great Western Railway in 1876. The ferry service remained independent until the GWR took it over as well (at about the same they took over the T&D). When British Railways took over the GWR, the ferry service, once again, became independent.
