As I've said before, it was over 300 years ago since Thomas Newcomen, controversially speaking, an ironmonger from Dartmouth, invented the steam engine. The machine in the photo is actually an electrically-driven working replica. If you go to the Black Country Museum, at Tipton, near Dudley, you'll find a proper steam-powered replica!
