Another tablet doodle of my foo-dog beast monster thing, Xuengou. Scribbled this while watching a marathon of cartoons with some buddies. I kinda like his new blue details.

I've been seeing more and more "foo" things showing up in artwork. And they're neat! And this is very neat. But I would like to make a suggestion.

More curls! While curls may be perceived as "girly," it can be used to very awesome effect when done well. And that's a super important part of the "foo" style.
Shorter snouts and wider mouths are also a common aesthetic used in these. Where real cats usually have their mouth "tucked in," dogs often have drooping lips, and the original Chinese statues the design is based on have lions with really wide, drooping, dog-like lips.
Of course, it all comes down to what looks awesome. Genres and labels aren't there to be conformed to, they're there to organize what exists. So it depends if you're trying to make something to fit into the label, or making something and applying an appropriate label.
