Chapter 11
Zelda was badly hurt, she was bruised and shaking. Everyone was gathered around her where she lay, except for Snake, who went to get a first aid kit from the vehicle.
“Zelda, can you hear me?” Roy asked her, cradling the top of her, tears forming at his eyes. She nodded weakly. “You’ve got to hang in there; we’re going to get you fixed up as much as we can. We’ll get that book back and take you to Dr Mario. You’re going to be okay.” She weakly gave a small smile. “I’m so sorry Zelda,” Roy sobbed, hugging her gently. “Forgive me for not getting here sooner.”
“It wasn’t your fault,” Ike said, putting a comforting hand on Roy’s shoulder. “It was beyond anything we could do. What matters now is that we help her all we can for the time being, and get back at whoever’s responsible for this. Roy looked back up at him, eyes laden with a tint of magenta from his tears, and nodded.
“Before we begin bombarding her with questions,” Snake started, coming into the group clutching a white box. “It’s best that we help get her into a better condition.” No one argued.
Nearly half an hour later, they tried all they could to help heal her. But she was only slightly better than before. Her expression was less pained, and she had some of the strength to talk.
“How are you feeling now?” Snake asked her.
“Somewhat better,” Zelda responded faintly. “Thank you.”
“Here,” Lucario said, holding a paw out to her. “Take some of my aura, it will help.” He placed it on her arm, and his paw started glowing as he transferred some of his aura to her.
“Thank you, Lucario,” Zelda said gratefully, voice still quiet.
“Who did this to you?” Ike asked her, concerned.
“Mewtwo,” she started. Everyone around her gasped. She continued before they said anything. “He was being controlled by Tabuu and was forced to attack me.”
“Are you sure that he was being controlled?” Snake pressed.
“The pain in his eyes was genuine,” Zelda said. “He never would have wanted to by his own will. I’m surprised I didn’t die from that attack.”
“If we don’t get you to Dr Mario soon enough,” Snake started, expression grave. “That may become the inevitable. Which is why we must hurry, time is of the essence.”

“Ganondorf,” Ness called out from one end of a corridor. Lucas was behind him, quivering, not wanting to rouse the villain’s wrath. Toon Link was silent next to Ness as they walked down the hall, and Pikachu was ahead of them, trying to sniff out Ganondorf’s location to little avail. The four of them had been searching all over the mansion for any signs of Ganondorf or Bowser, preferably Ganondorf due to the fact that he can speak more clearly to them. However, they couldn’t find either of them anywhere. Pikachu came back to the other three, his ears down.
“Pikachu,” he said glumly, slowly shaking his head.
“That’s okay Pikachu,” Ness said with a small smile, rubbing Pikachu’s head comfortingly. “You tried.”
“That’s odd though,” Toon Link said, scratching his hair thoughtfully. “Where could they be?”
Pikachu’s ears suddenly pricked up. “Pika-pi,” he said, pointing down the hallway.
“Do you hear one of them?” Ness asked.
“Pika,” Pikachu said, nodding. He led them down the hallway to a corner where they saw Ganondorf walking down towards the opposite end.
“Ganondorf, wait up,” Ness called out, running towards him. The others followed behind him. Ganondorf stopped and turned with an annoyed expression.
“What do you want?” Ganondorf said gruffly. “I’m in a hurry.” Ness suddenly found himself at a loss for words, Lucas was cowering behind him, Toon Link was frowning and looking away, and Pikachu was silent as he stood on Ness’s shoulders.
“W-we need your help,” Ness stammered, clearing his throat after an uncomfortable pause as he gazed up at the evil warlock towering over them. “We need to get to subspace.”
“And why would you want to do that?” Ganondorf asked them with a deadpan expression.
“Some of the other smashers are there and they’re in trouble,” Ness answered.
“Uh-huh,” Ganondorf said mundanely. “And why does this concern bring you to me?”
“Because Zelda is hurt,” Toon Link said, looking him in the eyes with a determined frown. “And she needs help. You’re the only one we know that knows about subspace, you know more about it than any of us.”
“Even if I wanted to help,” Ganondorf said coldly. “I am unable to get to subspace with what power I have. Even Mewtwo doesn’t have that kind of power.”
“But Mewtwo still found a way to get himself, along with six others, into subspace,” said Ness.
“And why would they even go into that forsaken dimension in the first place?” asked Ganondorf irritably.
“They were going to get something back from Tabuu,” Lucas responded quietly from behind Ness. “He came back somehow and robbed something from Mewtwo.”
“And what could it be that would be so important to Mewtwo, that he would consider entering subspace to get it back?” Ganondorf asked darkly, causing Lucas to shrink back.
“I-I don’t know for sure,” Lucas squeaked out. “But it must have been important.”
“Pika, pika-pi,” Pikachu said from Ness’s head, everyone turned their attention to him.
“What?” Toon Link asked, lost.
“Pika, pi-pikachu,” Pikachu went on, using his hands to try and convey his thoughts. He then brought his palm up to his face when their expressions remained blank.
“Can you read his thoughts Ness?” Toon Link asked Ness. Ness pondered a moment before closing his eyes in concentration.
“As hard as I try, I can’t,” Ness said nervously after a few attempts. Ganondorf began losing patience.
“I’ve got places I need to be,” Ganondorf said sullenly. “And if you can’t figure out what it’s saying, I’m leaving.” With none of them able to give an answer, Ganondorf turned to leave.
“Wait, please,” Ness said to him. Ganondorf walked on, heedless of Ness’s pleading. He then rounded the corner. Ness looked to the others, not knowing what to do next.
“Now what do we do?” Lucas asked forlornly as he gazed down at the floor. “How are we supposed to get into subspace now?”
“Subspace?” a voice from behind them said. “Maybe I can help.”
...............
Back in subspace, inside a uniquely built and darkly lit structure, Tabuu sat at something similar to a throne. He seemed to be waiting for something as he sat there, resting his head on a closed fist supported by the arm rest his elbow sat on. His wait ended as he sat up and gazed at one of the skylights. A figure came floating in through it.
“Ah, Mewtwo,” Tabuu said icily, greeting the figure. “How nice of you to join me this fine day.” The glare that Mewtwo threw at him would have stopped a charging bull in its tracks, but Tabuu only chuckled. “Are you still angry with me, Mewtwo?”
“I’ll never forgive you for what you made me do to her,” Mewtwo said harshly. Tabuu chuckled again, the sounds of his mirth echoing off the walls of the empty room.
“Well I never asked if you would,” Tabuu said coyly, rising from the throne. “Besides, it was you who attacked her.”
“Shut up!” yelled Mewtwo, eyes starting to glow blue. “You know it was yourself that controlled my body to do that.” Tabuu then appeared next to him.
“But whose lack of strength was it that prevented you from protecting her?” Tabuu countered. Mewtwo was silent. “Even you know that there was no way for her to survive that attack.”
“Your mind’s as twisted as your creations,” Mewtwo spat.
“Oh, an insult,” Tabuu said, unfazed. “Is that what you’ve descended to? Then you truly have lost control.” Tabuu laughed, sending a chill down Mewtwo’s spine. After his fit of mirth, Tabuu turned to leave the room. “Do try to get what rest you can for tomorrow,” he said back to him. “You’re going to need it.” With that, he left the room, leaving Mewtwo inside.
“You’ll pay, Tabuu,” Mewtwo muttered. “I swear on mine and Zelda’s life that you’ll give recompense for our ordeals.”
