Well like most games, Im guessing most of the dead time is cut out to allow for actual fun gameplay, it wouldnt be much fun to spend a week hiking through the wilderness on foot just to get from Pewter to Cerulean, but the routes cant possibly be as short as they are in the game, they make it look like Kanto is the size of your average city block
