You can still have hours of fun today, only not with the normal mainstream stuff.
But yeah the best games were those that made you use your imagination to picture most of whats going on.

You should get it with the addon Shivering Isles, if you really want to go for it...the main game was rather dull imho.
The Addon is said to be alot better but after the main program descieving my expectation theat much i didn't want to spent any more money on it. (Though i had the German version which has an hell of an awfull translation)

but the shivering isles is awesome.. you get to work for a god xD.. good story.

fantastic game, just be warned the Game of the Year Edition has the two main expansions, but not the other Downloadable content, you need to get the Knights of the Nine Retail CD as well to get those for the PC version, or download them from xbox live if you get the 360 version.
