So, we did decide to keep Coco as I am sure a lot of you will remember... And he is the cat that had the dislocated tail. Now, we got him in and got him looked at and were told that his tail was not an immediate danger. In fact, we were told it most likely didn't need to be removed at all but that the damage was irreversible. (We believe a cow / calf may have stepped on his tail as a kitten and he tried to run, dislocating it up by his butt. The vet said it was like the third vertebrae or so down. So he's still got a little "bunny stump" that moves. )
We are getting him and his brother in to be fixed this month and I have decided to get his tail removed. He frequently gets litter caked onto it and ends up smelling like urine which means more frequent bathing. He also cannot feel it, which means if we step on it... He doesn't react. Normally we watch where we're going but at night, he likes to follow us to the bathroom and I am worried we will hurt him more if we either step on it or he repeats what caused the injury in the first place. I'll try to keep you guys updated on him more, and will probably post pictures once his tail is healed. We're getting both the docking and neutering done at the same time, given he REALLY does not like car rides. :(
This is another reason I've been busy, we got him in again recently to see the vet who did Jack's neutering. She is absolutely wonderful and does things at a discounted price two days out of the week. She is willing to do both the neuter and docking procedure for under $200. She has also been giving us discounted spaying and neutering for some of the cats on the farm.

Yeah, we're really hoping to see an organization that does the spaying / neutering for free... Because really, I mean, this is one farm out of many in just that area. And all of them put signs out for free cats in the spring. We try to do what we can for this farm but even the woman we know that does discounted spaying and neutering it is $45 and $35. I can't even afford those prices when we've got 16 adults. I know they seem to have a lot more down south than they do up this way but even our humane leagues up here cost about the same when everything is said and done. It's really frustrating.
