Concession #001 [DIGITAL REMASTER]
Okay... Let's see who's even still interested in this.
This is the first step towards the long-delayed Concession Collector's Edition. I found all the inked lineart for the original comics for which I lost the psd files, meaning I won't have to totally redraw them - all I need to do is recolor them, which will keep them looking like the period of time they represent.
Kind of a trippy side-by-side, if you ask me.
Maybe I'll just do them all and throw them up for sale.
Maybe there will be a Concession Kickstarter.
We'll see!
===========
Not sure what all this is?
My original claim to furry fame was Concession, a webcomic. This is the very first comic, re-colored with the original ink-on-paper lineart scanned. When Concession ended in February 2011, I promised a Collector's Edition - all the strips in high res, remixed a little and cleaned up. Part of why it hasn't happened yet was because I lost the high res files for comics 1-30ish and was hesitant to totally redraw them.

But the cliffhangers are the best part! Your imagination runs wild with all the different possibilities of what might happen next, and you scream at your friends that you can't wait and they think you're a crazy loony person but they just don't understand how awesome it isandhowyoucantwaittoseewhatsnextandomigoshwilleveryonebeokaywhosgonnasavethedayAAAAGH *explode*... anyone have a dustpan?
I remember showing my cousin "Joel's New Look..." We sat laughing for about ten minutes before going "Ah, fuck, this story arc was convoluted enough as it was -" but that was the best part, we agreed, it was so awesomely convoluted you couldn't predict a word of it. It almost jumped the shark every other week, man. #325 was as close as it came to actually doing that.
"You're fuzzy, like a peach! You're usually smooth, like a non-peach. Why are you this thing I just said?" Classics.

Concession was cool but I never understood why you went on such a dark tangent with it. I was down with a bunch of dysfunctional cinema employees who had misadventures and casual sex, but suddenly there was pedophilia, vengeful sadistic spirits and murder and it all just seemed a little unnecessary.
What you must understand is that Concession was very much a mirror of my developing tastes in media and general sexuality. As my likes became darker, sadder, more violent, it soaked into the things I did because, in general, people doing projects like Concession are doing what appeals to them. That's part of the fun of Concession, but also part of the general risk of not really planning out a comic from the beginning and just seeing where it goes.
When you read Concession and watch dark topics and overt fetish content filter in, you're watching me, as a person, develop opinions and likes.
It's not an easy read, I know.

It's Immy's own font, and it does look better with his work than the sans serifs did. More cryptic. <3
It's not as much about legibility as it is artistically fidelous creations - you remember the Wagner books of Willy Pogany? I'm hoping it gets to to that level, in spirit if not in ridiculously expensive detail.

It does look nice, to be sure, but that doesn't benefit me much when I can't read it.
I'm not bashing it, mind. x3 Just means I have to get a little closer to the screen if I want to make out what it says. Perhaps it wouldn't be the same problem if it was in book form or whatever he was considering doing.

Describing Concession to a friend -
"You want soap opera plot? How about this:
'You mean that when I believed I had sex with the yesterday-orphaned hypersexual transgender eight year old, and my pedophile girlfriend found out about it, it wasn't because of my brain cancer; but you were trying to fulfill your plan of vengeing your brother with the ghost of your twin sister who he framed you for the murder of, and you used your dead twin sister's ghost to MIND control me into having sex with the aforementioned eight-year-old?'"
That's what I love about this strip. You couldn't predict ANYTHING.

Thats Immy for ya.
I'm glad he did what he did with it because I completely stand by artists doing what they do because they love it and not because others love it. There's always the possibility that Concession could have gone even further then it did if he had kept what he had originally did with it going. Gag-a-day bits with the characters and only once and a while throwing in ironic situational humor sub plots among characters in like a sitcom formula and catering to demand of fans but it makes it more one of a kind to go in the direction it did then that.

I love your art Immy. If the ones on the left are the older versions, I must say I find them a little more appealing to my eye. More...classic and "real" I suppose if that makes sense to you. I love the remastered too but Joel's eyes are so much more piercing on the left and his fur is so much more...there! I can't think of the freaking word for it right now GAH!
Question:
If you DID do a Kickstarter, and... assuming you raised all the proper fundage, would you be more inclined to re-draw your earlier comics in your current style? To help it look more seamless, I mean.
I'm personally a fan of reading webcomics from the start, and watching the artist's style slowly develop and get better and better, but a CE of Concession would look great all cleaned up and stuff. Buuut, that's just my opinion.
Otherwise, I loved the comic, was slightly sad to see it end, but I understand why it did. I would be totally interested in backing this if you decide a Kickstarter is warranted.

Well I personally loved the original comic. It was actually one of the first webcomics I found that I actually Liked, and I would love to see it redone like this one. An amazing difference in the comics too, it's like a whole new comic...
Not sure where anyone is getting the idea of a reboot though (although that would be kind of kickass). I could actually throw a few bucks your way for something like that, but if you think it is over for good, I can live with that.
I actually reread it on occasion too, because some of the jokes are endlessly hilarious. XD

After I read the entirety of Concession, I had to do some major thinking about...I dunno, things, I guess...life in general, whatever.
The comic itself was awesome, it was also cool to see how your art style changes through the series itself...but trying to take away some sort of moral from the whole story seems nearly impossible to me right now, I just can't seem to be able to place myself in this timeline of life I'm in now and make some sense of it...
Plus, whenever I read an awesome story like this, sometimes I get stuck in their world or one of the characters from the story sits in my room and helps me sort my shit out, so right now Joel is sitting on my bed brooding about this and that and how he's going to figure out which puzzle piece of this huge jigsaw puzzle I am and where I fit into...but I'll figure it out eventually.
Concession was a cool comic, It introduces all of your characters in a way that writes an awesome story and sets the scene up for all of your characters in an amazing way, can't wait to see what the remastered edition looks like.

It's funny that you are redoing them, I just reread the comic the other day.
Oh... and if and or when you get around to it, I will be looking forward to the new version of this page

I for one would jump on buying a copy/supporting a Kickstarter should you go that route.
As for the original/remaster here, I know the original drawings hold a certain place in my memory, but for a whole collection, I'd say go with the remastered version, if only to allow for a bit more consistency with the later strips. As well, I like that the remastered image still keeps with the same style as the original version of the strip while cleaning things up a little visually.

Just wondering (even though I'm clearly two weeks late to this party) How do you plan on making this into a collectors edition if the comics are all different sizes? As for B&W Tuesdays, are you recoloring those in black and white or are you planning on adding color to those as well?
There's enough consistency between sizes (resolution and width) that they can just be split into as many pages as necessary. I'll be filling the book with commentary and sketches so there will be enough to fill pages that would otherwise be awkwardly blank.
The black-and-white ones will remain as they are.

That's not that funny because I've encountered many clerks that left their register sign "Open" and then told me they weren't open. And then there's the Subway on campus that has two sandwich stations, both fully stocked and having employees ready to make sandwiches. However, they won't open the second one until exactly 11:00am, even when there's like 20 people waiting in line.
