heehee, yeah, steampunk is so cool!
and though i'm love it, i'm not so familiar with the stuffs in it...yet ;P
do You know the game "Syberia" ? it's kinda steampunk game, so beautifully designed!
and i would sooo read steampunk themed books, but the only one i know is the "His Dark Materials" series...

Beautiful use of colour. Feng Zhu might say that values could be broader, and to loose the white, but his approach is mostly about background/environment design - i like seeing close values with different hues - we were taught that as one style of painting in my old school - it's legit.
Love her ambiguous expression...mostly friendly but not sure....

i would agree myself to use less white, but i didn't have too much time to do the background >..<
(i set up my clock for one hour to limit the time for these sketches...but i still had to work more on it, so poor background stayed washed out >..<)
