My best guess is Daddy here is seen with a tinger of how a child expects a monster to be but with all the baggage of the hard life Gem's had piled onto it. What started out as a horrible father has morphed into the manifestation of all of her fears and doubts and frustration. Least that's my working theory anyway in regards to this. I think real life here Daddy killed mommy or mommy died leaving the kids to a man who was ill equipped to be a father and probably didn't want to be which probably lead to at very least neglect and probably included abuse in one form or another.

Hmm. This is making me think of what Mortis Ghost did with OFF.
The batter,the main character,said he was on a holy mission to "purify the world". The judge,a cat,decided to help. When it turned out the batter wasn't really purifying,and was just destroying and leaving nothing in the world,you can decide which person you side with for the ending of the game. If you choose the judge,you see the batter as a big monster. Through the whole thing he looked like a normal man.

Mortis Ghost had said (after someone asked about it) that "bad batter"(the monster) wasn't really real. And that "your view of someone would change if they had done that to you"

Perhaps something similar happening here?

I stumbled across these tonight and just read them all- have to say I'm impressed! Very good job on this series; I can't wait to see what comes next (even though it's kind of creepy right now and I have all of the feels and sympathy for Gem). You did a great job of foreshadowing/revelations and hiding little hints throughout (the 'you're not going to put your trust in a rope' comment in one of the flashbacks and the well scene later was particularly nice).

...though I'm getting a rather depressing idea about why she became a lawyer/solicitor when she grew up, given what she told Paul earlier in the series about having seen families turning on each other. :(

I knew as soon as Rasile told Gem to be quiet, she was gonna yell out at the worst possible time. :)

Rasile said before that this was a memory, but our memories are always colored by our emotions, and this must have been a very dark time for Gem, so all the fear and other bad feelings are making everything dark and distorted. That's what I think, anyway.

It's getting very dramatic isn't it? Eeeep what happens next? I will have to wait somehow and see!
