Applique cutie marks
This looks SO much better than the painted ones I used to do. (See here for an old one: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6751460/ )
It's funny because I saw somebody on the FA forums today basically saying it was horrible and stupid and a really bad idea to just sew markings on top, rather than cut out and sew them in as an integral piece.
Made me roll my eyes so hard. Sure for big stuff I'm usually going to do that but for small details this is WAY better. I couldn't possibly sew in pieces that small, it just doesn't work. Sewing them on top works a charm though!
It really is a bit of a pet peeve of mine, people who insist there's one "right" way to make crafted stuff. That's nonsense. I've used tons of different things just for the single problem of cutie marks (embroidered patches, painted felt, paint straight on the plush, applique, sewing them in as part of the plush itself... I want to try hand embroidery sometime too, but I don't know if I'll ever have the time to learn that one) and each one can be the best solution in some particular situation. There is no one best way, and I wish people would quit acting like there is. It makes newbies afraid to experiment and try new things, because they worry about doing it "wrong."
Okay, I'll shut up now. Look at the pretty pony-ball
P.S. Yes this is another plush that will be at Everfree! I have all the Mane Six in chubby-ball form.

Applique basically means "added on top" and can be anything from sewing on Girl Scout Badges to your scarf to the fancy beaded designs on wedding dresses, but in this case it means I just cut out little butterflies from the same minky fabric as Fluttershy herself and carefully stitched them on from the outside, after the plush was already made and stuffed.
