This is a submission for the
Argos_Region about the trainer Algus seeking the project's current event pokemon, the Royal Blue Scizor. It's a little late, but
Natsuki_Raichu gave the okay so here we are.
Algus had come to the Argos Region for many reasons. To earn respect as a trainer, to start up a new branch of the family business... But why Argos? It was simple. Argos had rare breeds of known pokemon that displayed unusual aesthetics and abilities. Perfect for both his business and his needs! But he was running late..!
The ship he'd taken to arrive in Argos had been behind schedule when it finally arrived in the Dragonfly Village, and it had him in a rushed panic as he found himself dashing through the streets towards the famous Whistling Bamboo Forest! The mating season of the Royal Blue Scizor was all but past, but just barely! If he was lucky, maybe, just maybe... He'd find some stragglers!
The day had passed so quickly... Algus slowly continued to push his way through the bamboo, dejected as he lazily slapped away a pesky fly. It had been nearly eight hours out here and he'd seen no signs of his quarry. And now, it was slowly changing to dusk as the sun set on the horizon past the black silhouettes of the bamboo stalks.
He didn't want to be stuck out here at night, but he couldn't just give up. Not yet. Stumbling through the underbrush he caught himself on a few of the larger bamboo stalks. And with the sound of his fall, he noticed a swift movement and a glint of... Purple? Well, it certainly had looked purple in the fading sun, but just as good in his mind! He saw it, the signature metallic blue of a Royal Blue Scizor!
It was watching him warily, holding the remains of its latest meal in claw. It didn't seem particularly angry. Just... Cautious. Noting the larger abdomen, Algus hadn't felt so lucky since he'd left port. A female! Perfect for future breeding projects.
Carefully, he stepped forward. Trying to keep his hands in plain view. "Heyyy, girl. It's alright. Just lemme get a look at you..." The Scizor's claw twitched. It didn't seem too fond of his approach but definitely was still assessing whether or not he was a threat.
Algus began to circle her, inspecting the pristine exoskeleton. "Wow, you are in amazing shape for a wild steel type. I can't even find a scuff-" As he got behind her however in his inspections, hoping to see mroe of the wings, she turned and took up a more defensive stance. Snapping her claws at him.
"Whoa!" Algus hopped back in response, examining those claws which had dropped their meal. "Not one for showing off the wings, huh?" The Scizor seemed to calm down a little, lowering her elbows. But she was giving a glare and kept her claws upright. And when Algus didn't back away immediately, she gave off a warning swing. Her claw whooshing past maybe half an inch from the side of the young man's head!
That caused Algus' first mistake... Jumping back he couldn't help but take the move as a direct challenge, and grabbing a pokeball off his belt he tossed it. "A little help her, Nostromo!" And out came the trainer's prized starter pokemon, a Grotle! A Razor Leaf attack already in full effect as it made an attempt to blow back its trainer's attacker!
The Scizor felt more annoyed than much else as the sharpened leaves battered against her. This was all the human had up their sleave? His pokemon didn't even listen to a command, it was just acting on its own accord. And its decisions were not sound.
She bunkered down to trudge up to the turtle-like dinosaur, pulled her claws back, and swept sideways to bat it in the face and send it off to the side! She wasn't even bothering with actual attacks just yet. It seemed... Unnecessary.
"Nostromo!" The human called out yet again. It was a chatty one for such an undisciplined trainer. "Razor Leaf's no good against a Scizor, go in for a Rock Smash!" And with that the Grotle charged back forward, teeming with fighting type energy as it charged straight into her to smash her in the gut with its head.
With a grunt and one step back before planting her foot to dig it into the ground for support, she hadn't even responded yet before the trainer gave a follow up command of "get in a Bite, while you're in close!"
These seemed like slightly sounder tactics, she couldn't help but think as this 'Nostromo' launched itself upward to bite at and latch on to her arm. It stung, but like she thought... Only SLIGHTLY sounder. A dark type move was pretty useless on her, now the Grotle was just an annoyance. It was time to end this.
Yanking her arm upward, she threw the Grotle so hard that its jaws came unclamped and it went flying through the air! And following up, the Scizor bolted through the air with her wings spread wide, slamming into the dinosaur with a Wing Attack! By the time it bounced off the ground with a thud, the enemy was unconscious and called back.
"Well this is turning out wonderfully..." Algus muttered to himself, running her fingers over the second occupied pokeball on his belt. He grimaced, hesitant since he'd spent so little time with Sulaco so far. But he tossed the ball, calling out "Sulaco, Dragon Rage!"
Now there would be another pokemon the Scizor's size on the field, though with his serpentine body Sulaco certainly didn't look it. The baby dragon pokemon sucked in a heavy breath of air, its cheeks puffing as though it were throwing a tantrum... And that's sort of exactly what it was doing it would seem, as it unleashed a flurry of black and purple draconic fire at the Scizor, who finally, FINALLY seemed to be taking some damage!
"Now, Agility while she's busy! Let's keep you too quick for her to fight back!" Sulaco listened well, giving a little nod before he began slithering swiftly back and forth, circling around the Scizor as he unleashed another volley of Dragon Rage.
The Scizor went down to one knee now, blocking the attack as she could by crossing her arms over herself. This seemed like it..! Algus pulled out an empty pokeball, expanded it, and threw! It was now or never!
Unfortunately, it would appear as though it was to be never. As the Scizor launched out a claw and caught the pokeball directly in its grasp. She gave Algus direct eye contact, ignoring Sulaco as she suddenly gave the ball a squeeze until it began to crack, then broke. After which she reached out her other arm to snatch Sulaco by the tail!
'No formal moves this time,' she thought to herself. The tiny dragon firmly in her grasp. She didn't know its favored moves, but given its body... She hurried to make sure it wouldn't retaliate with a Wrap. Pushing herself up as she spun in a circle, the Dratini going slack and parallel with the ground from the inertia.
Soon, she released! And threw the pokemon directly into its trainer, knocking them amongst the bamboo and to the ground. After a moment of no real reactions, she walked over to see the results of her attack. Both young men were laying there, unconscious.
There was a twinge of pity as she looked down at them. So young and inexperienced... The Scizor matron knew she shouldn't, but she couldn't help but compare them to young she'd reared in the past. In need of protection, training... Even guidance, maybe?
She growled at herself for what she was thinking. Clenching her claws and letting out a long and disgruntled "Sciii-..." Sitting down beside the young ones, she would protect them for the night. Annnd, maybe... Maybe she would accompany them, ensure that they stayed safe.
As Algus handed over the pokeballs of his two injured partners to the nurse at the Dragonfly Pokemon Center the next morning, covered in scrapes and with a black eye, he couldn't help but keep looking back at the Royal Blue Scizor who had stayed by his side the whole time. Was she actually sticking with him? It was... Weird. He'd never heard of trainers getting a new pokemon like this before. And it made him start to wonder about what was and was not normal around here. And just how he'd wind up getting a fourth member of his growing team...
