Looky what I got! Thanks to everyone who got auctions, specials and commissions from me I was able to get very close to my goal in time, with only 4 days left till my birthday. Browsing craigslist early in the morning I came across the ad for this honda accord, my first choice in model wanted and for just the amount I had saved on hand. Rushed out to see it, having to take a cab, but was real sad when saw an older couple had gotten there literally like 3 minutes before me and were looking the car over. Owner came out to greet us. then the husband of the couple, the owner and I all took a test drive together, the one guy asking lots of questions about it. Once we got back could tell he was really interested in it and after a brief talk with his wife the guy said if I had not arrived in cab he would definitely take it, but since it seemed I was in need of it more let it go. Even had a third person interested in the car waiting when we got back from the test drive who offered more than the owner was asking, but he let me have it. I was so happy and so thankful to the couple who passed it over to let me have it. It's in nice condition and seems to have been a california car originally so doesn't have the usual rust for older cars, specially with madison's winters and salt covered roads. All tires are like brand new still having their lil tire whiskers. AC works (oh bliss) and is automatic. So happy and pleased and so thankful to everyone who helped me get this. the bits of left over earnings from specials and auctions will go into getting its plates and getting a nice thorough check up. Thank you all! ~<3

A Honda Accord, you did your research; that's a dependable car.
My dad had a Honda Prelude, (the predecessor to the Accord), for over 20 years and here are a couple things you should know:
Honda has never mastered the braking system, you will most likely need to replace brakes more than any other thing on the car, (besides oil, of course).
Honda also can not design a glove-box, so don't expect to fit much more than emergency napkin in there.
Learn how to change your own oil, just in case, but take it to a professional every 3~4 thousand miles and this car will most likely live to classic age, (20). And then you can get plates that never expire!
That Prelude went back and forth across all 50 states 3 times; Honda makes a good car.
And one more very important thing: HAVE FUN!

yeah looked up lotta stuff about what kinda cars were known for being reliable and a honda was almost always in the top 3 options.
I'll have its oil changed regularly at a place that does good work plus does the basic checks on everything for free so can see how the brakes are all the time. My old jetta didn't have a glove box at all so that's nothing big. I know it qualifies for the plates that never expire but wasnt sure what plate type that was or if could get them personalized. Will find out once the dmv opens tomorrow.

Actually, the newer Hondas have some of the best brakes I've ever had the experience of being in the car when it's used. Especially the CR-V. Those things are DAMN GOOD. Nearly flew through the window the last time I had to brake hard.
The older Hondas though, I can definitely attest to having very...... Brittle brakes that need replacing a lot. My dad owns an early 90's Accord and Civic, and both have required three brake changing in the past 5 years, iirc.
And yeah, as for damn nice reliable cars, Honda, Mitsubishi, and Toyota/ Mazda are usually the takers. All offer nice car ranges as well, especially Honda. Hope you have fun with your classic Accord!

If you look at an earlier comment, she says it's a '91, as you said yourself, she's going to need to replace the brakes a lot.
Though, honestly, I would much rather replace the brakes every other year on a car that lasts for over 30 years then have to go out and buy a new car about once every 10~15 years; it's just basic sense.
I personally have a '98 Chrysler Concorde, and she's as dependable as I could ask for. Beautiful, too, with her gold paint job.
I see a lot of her sisters around here, '98 must have been a good year for Chrysler.

Blech, Chrystler. Something about them... They all just seem.... Hideous. The 300, the 200, the Crossfire, especially the Crossfire, and many others just look... Aweful. And yeah, as for the brake comment, you said yourself that "they've never mastered the brake system". In recent years, they have, yus.
As for me, I'm driving a 1999 Volvo S70, and honestly, it's an amazing car. The electrical system is trying to give me hell, though. A lot of the time, half the locks won't unlock until I do it manually, the battery at times seems to fail if I step on the brake after accelerating. Other than the elecrical system though, it's an amazing car. I floor it whenever I drive, and it's still averaging 19.3 MPG, has a 0-60 time of just 10 seconds (Which is pretty brisk for a luxury vehicle, and pretty fast for one from the late 90's, , and it sounds AMAZING for a V5 engine. Volvo knows how to make a car. I want a newer S70 to see how that one runs against mine. What I REALLY want though is a 1972 Corvette Stingray. It's just the prettiest thing imaginable.

Corvette Stingray; yes. 1972; no. There's just no comparison to the 1969 model. Hands-down, sexiest car ever built; what a body.
I have a Chrysler Concorde LX1. She's a luxury, definitely a land-yacht and a bit of a heart-stopper to parallel park, but she gets 24~25 mpg highway and she will get up and dance for you. V8 engine, and boy, oh boy, does that baby purr.
My car will literally growl at me if I go under 30; she does not like it and much prefers to be doing 70+
As far as 0-60, I fortunately have never needed to do that.
She'll go from 5 to 60 in under a quarter-mile and not even break 3000 rpms, though.
http://www.theautochannel.com/media.....corde_lxi2.jpg <-- I've heard some comments about her grill, but she has personality; I can pick her sisters out of a crowded parking lot in a heartbeat.
These days I can't even tell a Dodge from a Toyota half the time; they all look the same.

You do know that the 69-82 was the same body, right? The Third Generation Corvette Body. The 72 and the 69 are honestly, nearly the same. And honestly, the C3 has a contender for sexiest body. The "new" Corvette C7. It is, hands down, pornography. There are very few things as sexy. Like the Lancia Stratos.
yay!
and I think older cars can look so damn nice when freshly washed and maybe with a bit of car wax applied! yours looks like it can really be a looker with just a little polish :D (so many poor and beaten accords around so a shiny one would be even more interesting to see than a brand new car, I'd say!)

Congratulations on the car! I'm personally getting all worked up since for about 4 months now I've been trying to purchase my first car. Looking at a 93' model Toyota MR2 Turbo that a neighbor down the road has for sale. Just waiting to hear back from him. But I can sort of share the excitement ^^
And that was so awesome that you had some kind people pass on the car and then the owners sold to you. Nice to know there are nice people in the world ^^
