This is what they used to do what is called 'hydraulic mining' back in the late 1800's in California, during the gold rush. Water was brought in by flumes from many miles away, concentrated into ever smaller pipes, until it was forced from the nozzles of these things and brought up to 500 pounds per square inch to bear on the gold bearing gravel which was washed down and then sifted for the gold.

This was taken a couple of days ago at the Malakoff Diggings State Historic Park. A really wonderfully preserved ghost town, the diggings, and hiking trails all up about 15 miles outside of Nevada City,CA. Unfortunately, this park is close to being shut down by the CA. park system due to lack of funds. That would be a terrible thing! I drove from one end of the gold rush country to the other the last few days, and this is the best preserved historic town, stores, houses and other exhibits there is available. It would be a crime to lose this heritage of Californians due to monetary problems.
Oh, yeah. The local NRP affiliate did a segment on fracking. I hadn't thought too much about it before the program. Afterwards, however, I'm with you. Fracking is nothing but a wasteful destroyer of the environment and harmer of humans, all for the short-sighted goal of continuing our dependance on fossil fuels. Big Oil borrowed Big Tobacco's book on smear and misinformation, to discredit and squash any kind of opposition to fracking, and prevent the truth about it and its harm from coming out. These Big Oil execs and their lobby minions need to shot.
im glad your on my side. so many people just dont get it! thry are ready to swallow any and all the lies meant to calm you and keep you docilr while the big monry mrn slowly kill you, our futuregenerations and such wildlife as is left just to play their fucking dominance games of who has the mosst money ad/or control.
My college education didn't do crap to get me a job in advertising as a copywriter, but it did give me a critical mind for questioning commonly-held beliefs, a keen eye for seeing through bullshit, and I'm to that point in my life where I don't have a problem calling it out. Guess it's the liberal in me.
hhehe....I figured that out with only a year of junior college.
The big oil co.'s dont give a shit for anything but profit. I just dont understandhow they (and so many others) can keep on ruining the planet in the name of the allmighty dollar when thry can see that the really nasty consequences are right around the corner, Their children will be living with them .......some of them we'll be seeing (and are starting to see) even sooner. It's total insanity!!!!

Took me longer; I come from a very conservative German Catholic family...
Unfortunately, it ain't just Big Oil that lusts for profit at the expense of all else. It's Corporate America as a whole. My own company is being run completely into the ground by a tiny select group of indiduals who have made making money their priority, at the expense of their clients and even own employees. Which is why I hate Corporate America in general, and rich One Percenters in particular.

You're preaching to the choir. I worked for WalMart for 17 years. I've seen the change as corporate greed just gets more and more out of control. I retired from there almost 2 years ago and keep in touch with all my friendsthere, Heck, i still shop there often. Things are getting so much worse, so fast.....it makes me wonder how long it can go on before the whole system collapses. It;s bound to happen sooner or later. Probably sooner than we think.
