Hah!I already let the cat out of the bag elsewhere so I'll tell you. It's the Malakoff Diggings in northern California. Scene of hydraulic gold mining. The formations are from where they were washing down the gold bearing gravel so they could sift out the gold. The park there is WAY off the beaten path, and the rangers say it's the red headed stepchild of the Cal park system, but it's got a perfectly preserved ghost town, lots of trails and is in gorgeous country. I'm glad I took the effort to go there.
