Okay, Anthony Anonymous Writer (Aka
TrickyChimera) here. This is the first story that I've worked on and published without Cobalt Raccoon's help. I mean sure he proofread it, but that's it. It's not very "Furry" persay, but I'm proud of it. I'm also glad that I'm continued it even though it's been over a year later. I hope you enjoy it as I attempted to stell the story from a different person's perspective this time. The first story can be found here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7876966/
My name is Angela Delton. Yes, I’m a woman, an actual woman. You shouldn’t be reading my story if you haven’t already read my brother-in-law’s. Yes, I’m talking about Ash Delton. If you don’t know who that is then you shouldn’t continue reading this until you do. My husband’s real name is Jessie Delton. I’m willing to bet that you’d think that I’m crazy for dating (let alone marrying) a man like Jessie. You may already know my husband, but you certainly don’t know me. The truth is that I didn’t know anything about Issy when we were dating.
Don’t get me wrong. I truly love him for who he is and who he pretends to be. For better or worse. He’s a very good dog, but he’s also a great husband. Whether he thinks that he’s really a dog or not is irrelevant to me. He loves me and I love him and that’s all that really matters to both of us. This is how I know…
When I first met Issy, I was going by the name of Angela March. My husband was going by the name of Jessie Delton. Not by his own choice though. I did find it a little weird that he never spoke to people, but I liked him. He was sweet. Not that he’s not sweet now. He’s just much more affectionate now than he is sweet. At least to me…
According to Ash, it had been about five years since Issy had come into his life. However, we were dating for over a year before I officially met Issy. I was a Junior in college attempting to obtain my Bachelors in Business. I met Jessie in one of my minor classes. I had missed a few days of class and needed some notes. Well, Jessie was always paying attention in class. I figured that I could simply copy off of him.
He told me… well, wrote me. See Jessie isn’t able to speak. He knew sign language, but most people don’t (at the time this included myself). He said that he never takes notes, but he could write up the basics of the lecture for me. He had more than just a few notes ready for me by noon and well… he interest me a bit. So I asked him to stay for lunch. After that, we spent every chance we got eating together and comparing notes. I met his brother a month later.
Well… ‘met’ would be the nice way to put it. When Ash saw us together, he was beyond furious and frantic.
“Jessie! I’ve been looking everywhere for you,” Ashley shouted as he ran across the cafeteria, “Where have you been?”
Jessie tried to say something, but not a sound came out. He looked at me for help. Ash took one look at me and back at his brother.
“Who is this?”
“I’m Angela March,” I decided to speak up, “I’m sorry we were discussing notes and-”
“Nice to meet you,” Ash quickly took hold of his brother, “but You were not supposed to be in class today.”
Jessie tried to defend himself with words, but all he could muster was this cute little squeaking sound. I didn’t have time to admire it.
“Let go of him,” I shoved Ash, not knowing who he was, “Just who do you think you are?”
“I’m Ash,” he answer grabbing hold of Jessie again, “Iss-…ahem, I’m Jessie’s brother.”
“Well, like I said, Jessie and I were just having our normal lunch,” I glared at him, “and we were having a decent time until you got here Jack!”
“It’s Ash.”
“I know what I said. Being his brother doesn’t give you the right to treat him like he’s dirt,” I cracked my knuckles, “Got it?”
I can only assume that Ash was shocked at what I had said as Jess took this moment to shake free of his brother’s grip. Ash was about to grab him again when he paused. I assumed that Ash had just now realized how rude he had been and decided to try to salvage what little he could, “he’s never mentioned you before.”
“I’m surprised he hasn’t,” I said, “We’ve had lunch together for over half a semester.”
“Really, he told me that he was…” Ash raised an eyebrow and looked at his brother again. Jess frowned as if he was in trouble. Ash smiled slowly, “I see…”
“What?”
“For the past few weeks, Jess told me that he was sitting in on another course,” Ash’s smile almost doubled in size, “He lied to me to spend time with you.”
Jess squeaked as he tried to say something, but his embarrassment was more than clear. He tried signing (I guess) “I didn’t lie” in the air. He did sit in on a course, but it didn’t start until after our lunch together. Yet his attempts at explaining that only made him even more frustrated. I don’t even think that he was really signing anything. I could see why he couldn’t now.
“Oh…,” I blushed. Why I didn’t see it before is beyond me. Jessie liked me too.
“Well, she is kind of cute, bro,” Ash poked him in the ribs, “Why didn’t you tell me about her.”
Jess happily pointed at him, pinched his fingers and finished by raising his hands as if he was in prayer. Ash made a face at him and Jess followed with a smug smile and shrug. I had no clue what all of that had meant.
“What did he say?”
“He said that I didn’t ask,” Ash translated for me.
I laughed at that. Jess sighed blissfully. Anyone could tell that he loves my laugh.
“Tell you what,” Ash turned around, “why don’t the two of you just make it official?”
“Make what official?”
Jess quickly took up his notepad and wrote on it. “Will you go out with me,” Jessie turned it around and wrote again in big bold letters, “Please?”
“Why not,” I nodded, “there’s a movie that I’ve been wanting to see. See you at five?”
Jessie turned to Ash, silently asking for permission. Well, he didn’t use words, but he did this thing that reminded me of a young child who really wanted a treat.
“Do you want to go out with her or not,” Ash asked him, Jess nodded, “then just do it. I can handle the company for one night.”
Jess took hold of his brother in this bear hug motion. Very clearly saying ‘thank you’, but continuing to make a big scene in the cafeteria.
“What company?”
“Jessie runs his own online company,” Ash explained, quickly shoving his brother off of him, “he usually has meetings every few days or so. There was one tonight, but I’ll cover for him.”
“Really which one?”
“Trust me, you haven’t heard of them,” Ash motioned for Jess to follow him, “How about he’ll meet you at the theater. Is that okay with you, Angela was it?”
Jess nodded at me, almost begging me to say yes. He really wanted to go on a date with me. He looked so innocent and cute. Personally, those were my weaknesses.
“I’ll see you there,” I scuffed up Jess’s hair a bit, “cutie.”
Jess attempted to give me a hug, but Ash stopped him, “down big boy. We’ve got to get you home and cleaned up.”
~~~~~~~
For the next eight months or so we were officially dating. I didn’t mind that he never spoke, it just made him the better listener. Still, I always felt like Jess wanted to tell me something more. To speak with his words, but of course he couldn’t. He was, however, able to express is words through other methods. My favorite was how he’d always leave notes for me every day. He somehow managed to find a silly pun to use in every note too. (I love puns as much as he does.) He never once made me feel like I wasn’t special and unique. Like I was the center of his entire universe. When my aunt died, he was there to comfort me. He mourned with me. I was invited to meet with his mother and other relatives plenty of times as well.
During one of these visits (the one that we now jokingly call the last supper), Mrs. Delton showed us some old movies of Jessie and Ashley when they were young. (Why she openly called them by their full names is beyond me) I learned that Jessie could speak, least at one point in his life. I had asked Mrs. Delton why Jessie had become mute. She explained that Jessie had contracted a severe case of laryngitis that had damaged his vocal cords. I nodded in understanding and tried to take Jessie’s hand. Yet Jessie didn’t return the gesture. Instead he bit his lip.
After dating Jessie for eight months, I knew that meant Jessie was ashamed of something. The fact was undeniable this time as Jessie seemed to have become distant from me for the rest of the night. I quietly confronted Ash about it and he nodded his head understandably. He told me that they needed some time to prepare for an explanation and that I should meet them the next morning. That was the morning that I finally (and officially) met Issy.
“Okay, I’m here,” I announced to Ash as I entered their apartment.
“Good, I hope you’re ready for this,” Ash said as he shut the door behind me, “Would you like something to drink?”
“No, I want to know why my boyfriend is acting so weird all of the sudden,” I slapped him in the back of the head, “and why you both feel the need to tell me in the morning instead of last night is beyond me.”
“First off, OW,” Ash rubbed the back of his head, “second, you need to calm down otherwise this is going to be… how do I put this?…”
“He’s breaking up with me, isn’t he?”
“No, he’s not,” Ash shook his head, “it’s nothing like that. Actually, it’s kind of the opposite.”
I gave Ash a quizzical look. There’s a whole mess of questions that flooded into my mind. Still, I couldn’t figure out which one to ask first.
“Jessie wants to get serious with you, but h-”
“I thought we already were.”
“You are,” Ash sighed, “but you don’t know everything about your boyfriend. See h-”
“Oh what? Is he some kind of criminal?”
“Could you let me explain woman,” he yelled, “this is something that even our mother doesn’t know about!”
“That big huh,” I asked as Ash only calls me ‘woman’ when I’m being a big mouth. I politely decided to shut up and listen to what he had to say.
“And then some,” Ash offered me a seat, “Frankly, I don’t think that you’re ready for this. I’m certainly not.”
“So what is it,” I plopped myself down.
“You sure you don’t want a drink?”
“Ash…”
“Right,” he rubbed all the way up and down his face, “Where should I start?”
“I guess you could tell me why I feel like he was avoiding me lately,” I laid back a bit, “was it something that I did?”
“No, it’s something that Jessie did a few years ago,” Ash sighed, “he put me in charge of his life and I mean serious charge of his life.”
“Because he couldn’t speak?”
“Because he couldn’t think,” Ash looked me straight in the eyes, “Jessie lost his ability to think.”
“Are you shitting me,” I sat straight up.
“Believe me, I wish I was,” Ash turned his head, “Especially after I met Issy.”
“Issy? Who is Issy?”
“That’s the craziest thing of all,” Ash took another breath, “Issy is Jessie’s real name.”
“…What?”
“Jessie, my real brother got deep into something. Something that he couldn’t get out of. Jessie left me to take care of Issy,” Ash lifted a clearly out of date DVD off the table, “If you like I have the messages that he left for me on this disk. Think of them as his last will and testament, if you like.”
“You’re crazy,” I stood up to leave.
“Hey, I’m the one that told you that it was crazy,” Ash pointed a finger at me, “And you have yet to see the really crazy part of all this!”
The back bedroom door started being pawed at by (what sounded like) a big dog. Well, the pawing sounded like a big dog, like a Doberman. The noises made it sound like a medium sized dog like a small Husky.
“What is that,” I looked back at Ash, “Did you guys get a dog?”
“No, that,” Ash clicked his tongue, “is Issy.”
“But you said that Jessie was Issy.”
“True, but I didn’t say that Issy thought he was human.”
“You mean,” I asked, Ash nodded, “so then?… what the hell…?”
I slowly returned to my seat. My boyfriend has a split personality. Not only that, but his other persona was a dog. A dog of all things. That’s a lot to take in. I tried to breath so that I could calm down. Issy kept whining from behind the closed door. He really wanted out of there.
“Issy stop, sit and be quiet,” Ash ordered, Issy fell silent, “Good boy. Just so you know, Angela. He really likes you.”
“I think I’ll have that drink now.”
“I’ve got vodka,” Ash suggested, moving towards the fridge.
“No, nothing strong,” I raise my hands in the air, “I need to make sure that this isn’t all some kind of alcohol induced delusion later.”
“I know how you feel…,” Ash got out a few glasses and a bottle of coke, “but at least he’s still the same person that you knew.”
“Okay, now you’re not making any sense.”
“When I met Issy, I lost my brother in the process,” Ash stated as he poured the drinks, “but you have always had Issy even though he was pretending to be ‘Jessie’.”
“I guess it does explain some things,” I had noticed that Jessie behaved a little different from the norm. It was only a small sign here and there. Like how his leg bounced every day he was with me, but I shook it off as just nerves. He did love to cuddle and have his hair stroked. Although his butt shaking every time he was happy should have been a dead giveaway, “How did it happen?”
“Hypnosis. Powerful stuff too.”
“Wait,” I got up and walked to the kitchen counter, “hypnosis? As in cluck like a chicken at the snap of my fingers?”
“Yes.”
“Shouldn’t it wear off?”
“Normally yes, but he wasn’t just under for a few minutes for giggles, Angela,” Ash explained, “as far as I can make out, he spent years under the influence until the Pavlov Effect kicked in. You know what that is, right?”
“It was when that scientist trained dogs to drool at the sound of a bell right,” I noticed that I gave Ash a look of shock, “I minored in Psychology.”
“I guess that it would be good for someone going into business,” Ash continued, “But not for Jess. Whatever he did to himself is not only permanent, it’s nearly irreversible too. And believe me, I’ve tried. Every morning he’s on all fours, until I order him to stop.”
“So then he can control it…”
“No, he can’t.”
“But you just said-”
“He listens to me, because that’s how he’s programed.”
“You did it to him?”
“No, I just told you that he did it to himself,” Ash took a swing of coke, “I didn’t even know about it until he gave me that disk, but it was already too late.”
“Well, I knew it had to be something,” I shrugged after a moment of silence, “All the good guys out there are either taken, think that they’re a dog, or worse gay.”
“Low blow there,” Ash crossed his arms. He knew that I was poking fun at him.
After a quick laugh and a long pause, I asked, “Can I see him?”
“Why?”
“Seeing is believing,” I twirled the straw in my coke, “This is something that I have to see for myself.”
“That is what Issy wants,” Ash poured another glass for himself, “I don’t think you’re ready for that. Mentally, I mean.”
“Why not?”
“When I first saw Issy,” Ash looked down, “I thought that he was kidding and hurt him.”
“So you think that I’d do something like that?”
“Issy doesn’t, but I do,” Ash stared into his glass, “you can’t blame me for being protective of him.”
“I promise that I wont hurt your brother,” I crossed my heart, “I wont so much as scream.”
“Forgive me if I’m not convinced.”
“I gave my word.”
“Still,” Ash looked to the door, “It is hard to believe. Even you can’t be that accepting.”
“Look, I love Jessie. I don’t care what condition he’s in or how he acts.”
“I loved my brother too, Angela, but that didn’t stop me from throwing a mug at his head,” Ash snapped at me, bit his lip to calm himself down, “I could have killed him.”
“It came as that big of a shock to you…”
Ash nodded as he continued to stare in his drink, “he’s already forgiven me, but I don’t know if that was true or just Issy wanting to please me. What I wouldn’t give to hear Jessie’s voice tell me, ‘it’s alright. I forgive you’, just once.”
“Ash, I may have not known Jessie as well as I would have hoped,” I placed a hand on Ash’s shoulder, “but the Jess that I’ve gotten to know is sweet, kind, generous and gentle. And you know what? You’re his brother.”
“Yea, so what?”
“I’ve had a few of my own, remember? Big, rough, tough and immature until the day they left home. They put me through all kinds of torture and they’ve never once asked for forgiveness from me,” I tried to get Ash to see the honesty in my eyes, “but it was Jessie that taught me that I should forgive them, because they’re my family. We’re supposed to forgive when we hurt each other.”
“Actually, that was Issy,” Ash admitted, “I don’t know where he picked it up from.”
“Look, Issy may not be the Jessie that you grew up with, but he is the only Jessie that I’ve known,” I said before taking another sip, “well, before today that is.”
“Why are you trying to make this into a joke?”
“I have to do something t…,” I stopped when I heard the door’s lock click. Jessie slowly walked out of the back room. He was holding a book in his hands and walking on two legs. Jessie bore this face of sadness as he dragged his feet into the room. He was wearing a blue dog collar that jingled with each step he took. He was also dressed in a long sweatshirt and shorts. He had a fake tail protruding from his rear and a matching beanie with a pair of fake ears standing straight up.
“I thought you said that he walks on all fours until you tell him to stop.”
“He never has before,” Ash was stunned, “Issy, what are you doing?”
Jess motioned with his hands, I only caught a little bit of it. Still, there were some signs that I didn’t recognize. The parts that I did recognize was the word ‘love’ multiple times. Through the whole ordeal Jessie’s expression didn’t change. His legs were shaking almost violently as if he wasn’t used to standing. Ash nodded understandably before Jessie signed him something that involved him patting his hip and flipping his pointer finger.
“Go ahead buddy. She says she doesn’t mind.”
Jessie quickly signed ‘O K’ and dropped to all fours. He placed the book next to him without damaging it. His eyes brightened up as he held his mouth open slightly. He didn’t stick his tongue out, but he was breathing a little harder than normal.
“What was that all about?”
“Basically, Issy says that he loves you, and he also loves being himself. He’s frightened that you’re going to reject who he really is, but he’s willing to change for you,” Ash acknowledged the next section of the translation was the embarrassing part, “Then he asked if it was alright if he got back to doggy time.”
“Awe… come here Issy,” I squatted and patted my knees for Issy to come. Issy happily ran over to me. I mean on all fours, not baby crawling either. He would have jumped me but he stopped short of doing so and laid his head on my knee instead. I lightly stroked his hair and he wiggled his tailed butt.
“Seriously, you’re not phased by this?”
“No, I am completely shocked,” I laughed at the sight of Jessie acting like this, “it helped that you eased me into it.”
“But you’re acting like this is nothing special!”
“Having five big brothers must have caused me to develop a subconscious desire to be in complete control of my life and a dog for boyfriend will allow me to satisfy those needs,” I smirked at him, “that or he’s just so much cuter like this.”
“You’re pulling my leg now, aren’t you?”
“I was joking. You know that I only have two brothers,” I said sitting down in a more comfortable position, “ but I really do think that he’s adorable. I can’t help loving him more.”
“Why?”
“Why what?”
“Why do you love him?”
“I can’t explain it,” I looked down, “he’s sweet and sincere. That’s more than what I wanted in a guy, but Jessie’s so much more than that to me. He’s smart, dependable and he gets me. He understands me and he treats me like-”
“Like you’re the center of his whole world,” Ash finished my sentence, “Yeah he’s real great at taking care of everyone else, but he’s terrible at taking care of himself.”
I looked up at Ash as he moved back to the den. He sighed once before continuing, “I once left him for a few days. He kept the apartment spotless, but nearly starved to death, simply because he forgot to feed himself.”
“And you’re asking me if I can love someone who does that?”
“Basically,” Ash shrugged. My response was to kiss Jess. He responded to me, by returning my affection. I didn’t care what other interests he had, I loved him. And he cared about me enough to tell me (even if he didn’t technically tell me himself). I only hoped that it was enough to convince Ash. It wasn’t. He coughed to get us to stop.
“Jess also doesn’t have a paying job.”
“What about that company that he owns?”
“Made it up,” Ash shrugged, “the company board meetings are actually a cover for Issy’s doggy time. The only reason that he goes to college is to give the appearance of normality.”
“I see,” I looked down at my boyfriend. The company was a lie? I had to ask myself, ‘do I really want a boyfriend like this?’ I couldn’t help it. Did I want to seriously date someone who spent all their spare time being a dog? Someone who was completely unable to take care of himself physically.
“If you two get married then it would be your responsibility to take care of him.”
“Stop talking about Jessie like that,” I frowned, my heart knew the answer before my mind did, “he may act like a dog, but he’s still a human being. He’s willing to change for me, but I don’t think I want him to.”
“Care to explain?”
“I don’t know. This is a side of Jess,” I stroked Issy’s hair as he laid in my lap, “it’s a part of him that he enjoys. It’s obviously something that he can’t control and it’s important to him. Yet he said that he’s willing to change for me. No, he shouldn’t change at all. Not like that. I mean it when I say that I love Jessie. And Issy isn’t worse thing that I thought this was about. It’s not like he’s hurting anyone or that he’s completely unreliable. If he can take care of our home, then I wouldn’t mind taking care of everything else.”
“Good answer,” Ash’s eyes fluttered from astonishment, “I mean, I wasn’t expecting you to say all that, but that is actually really… touching.”
“Hey, most guys I’ve met only wanted one thing,” I stuck my finger up, “but Jessie only wants to be with me.”
“Okay, I’m convinced and I concede,” Ash mockingly bowed before placing a finger to his lips, “I trust that you’ll keep this a secret.”
“Of course,” I joked, “I don’t want anyone else to be playing with my boyfriend.”
“Good to know,” Ash smiled, “ready to watch the video?”
“What video?”
“Jess, the original Jess, left something for whoever becomes Issy’s girlfriend.”
Jess took the time to set up the camera before sitting down at his computer. He looked so normal compared to the Jessie that had his head in my lap. Ash was in the kitchen cooking eggs or something. He said that he’d already seen the recording several times already. It took me a bit off guard to actually hear Jessie’s true voice for the first time.
“Hey, this is a message for Ash and my… mate,” Jessie bit his lip, “I’m sorry, I hate to call you that. I’m also very sorry that I’m not a normal person. I know that Issy is hard to accept and that there’s no real way for him to help us all live a somewhat normal life. So, I’m going to help the two of you out.”
Jessie clicked on his computer and another screen popped up. It contained information that most people wouldn’t be able to understand. I understood the gist of it. These were cost-volume-profit analysis, or business graphs for those of you not in college.
“As you can see, I’ve decided to create a small company,” Jessie leaned back and smiled, “It’s already a big hit and I mean a really big hit. I’ve already earned a few thousand. Maybe you’ll recognize the logo I made for it.”
Jessie clicked a few more buttons on his computer, so that this image popped up.
I actually laughed at the pun that was made by Jessie. Or at least the past Jessie. Issy smiled like he always did when I laughed. Our love of puns was one thing that the both… all three of us had in common. At least both Jess’s personalities were the same.
“What’s so funny,” Ash looked up from his cooking.
“Oh nothing,” I shouted to Ash in the kitchen, “ I thought you said that the company was just a cover.”
“Sometimes it is,” was his reply, “keep watching.”
“Master Your Life Entirely, or MYLE (Mile) in your own shoes,” Jessie bobbed his head as he spoke, “Home of the finest therapeutic products that money can buy. But the one thing that’s really selling is our Hypnosis products.”
Jessie raised his hands quickly at the camera as if he wanted me to calm down,“Now, I’m sure the first thing that you’re thinking is that what happened to me will repeat itself. I’ve already taken Major precautions to prevent that from happening. For starters, I’ve deleted every single script that I used on myself. I’ve added time limits on any Transformation sessions.”
Jess laughed to himself a bit as he shook his head. He seemed to regret ever creating such products, “Who would have thought those would have been the ones people requested the most for. Still, if you need to create a new one Ash, I’ve kept notes on how to do it on my computer. Please don’t derive from any of the warnings in my notes. There’s also certain videos that I do not want you guys to EVER make, okay? I entrust these to you, Ash, but my mate,” Jess looked back up at the screen, “whoever you are, please respect my wishes as well. No matter how much we will need money, there are some lines that must never be crossed… I’m a living example of that.”
I wasn’t quite sure what he meant by those ‘lines’, but I felt as if it wasn’t just what had happened to him. I learned later from Ash, that he meant anything that they had considered immoral. Ash himself admitted he was tempted to using MYLE products to bring a few of his own fantasies to life. Just tempted…
Issy looked up at me and sat up a bit. As if he knew what my reaction would be for the next sentence that the old Jess was going to tell me.
“Oh, but that reminds me,” Jess spoke up again, biting his lip, “there’s also one more condition before we get any more serious than this. You have to watch one of my videos. It’s not that I don’t trust you, it’s just a precautionary thing. It will create a key phrase that will be used to erase your memories of ever being told of our secret.”
“What,” I asked, dumbfounded at what he was asking of me.
“You know my secret. And I really hope that you are the One. But sometimes hope’s not enough,” Jess paused to bite his lip again, “I can Hope that it wont rain, but I still bring an umbrella just in case. You understand?”
I paused the DVD. I didn’t need to hear the rest. I marched over to where Ash was finishing up making eggs. Issy tilted his head at my actions before he decided to follow me on all fours. Ash just turned around as I entered the kitchen area. He nearly dropped the frying pan at what I said next.
“Where is it,” I shouted, “I’m going to get it over with. Quick like a bandage!”
“What,” Ash looked back and forth for a place to put the hot frying pan down, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“The video for my key phrases. If I have to watch it, I want to do it now.”
“You sure,” Ash asked as he slid the last set of eggs on an open plate.
“I have to,” I nodded firmly regardless of his uneasiness, “The sooner the better.”
“Okay,” Ash looked down at the food he just finished making, “can we at least eat first. I heard that my eggs are amazing.”
“No now! The more conditioning I have, the more likely it will take root.”
“Trust me, it can wait,” Ash picked up the three plates to take to the table, “besides, I’m starving.”
“But…,” I paused when the scent of the eggs finally hit me, “I suppose it can wait.”
“Okay then,” Ash turned his attention to Jess, “Breakfast time, buddy.”
Jess automatically rose back up to two feet, albeit he still looked a little silly because of his clothing. He started to follow me when he suddenly remembered, turned around and moved back toward the bedroom. I didn’t notice this as I was walking over to the table. That is until Issy barked at the two of us. Ash and I looked up. We were both reminded of the book that was still on the floor.
We all had forgotten he brought it in at all. Issy barked again apparently it was very important that we see what he wanted to show us. The both of us stepped forward to investigate. I picked the auburn leather book up. I didn’t see what it was until I flipped it over. The golden letters were unmistakable.
“It’s a bible,” I handed it to Ash.
Jess slapped his hand on the counter so that he got our attention. He followed by signing, “L U K E… 2 3… 3 4”
“You want me to read it,” Ash tilted his head as Jess nodded.
“You know I haven’t picked one of these up in months,” Ash said scrolling through the pages until he found what he was looking for, “Luke Twenty-three, Thirty… oh my god…”
Ash fell silent, placing a hand over his mouth. I would have thought that he was about to drop the book. For the first time since I met Ash, he cried. He wasn’t just crying lightly either. He went all out bailing. He tried to stop himself, but he just couldn’t. Unlike his brother, Jessie smiled. Sure, he was shaking his tailed butt, but that’s not what a normal person would do. He smiled like a normal person would.
“What? What is it,” I asked, “What does it say?”
“It says…,” Ash snorted, “it says ‘forgive them Father…(*snort) for they do not know what they’re doing’… Issy’s saying he forgives me.”
Issy barked happily and hugged his brother. Ash returned the hug, but continued crying. I would have thought that he was a crybaby, but even guys have their weak moments.
Huh?
Wait! did I just…?
No, I couldn’t have…
Okay, for a split instant, I thought that I saw someone different. Someone other than Issy or Jessie hugging Ash. Or at least the Jessie that I knew. It was something about his eyes. It must have been a trick of the light, right? It only happened once after all. Still, I think that the apparition lipped, ‘It’s alright’ a few times before disappearing.
Below is a sheet of paper that Jessie wrote on when I asked Ash the significance of the Bible verse to the two of them.
Luke 23:34 is about what Jesus went through for those that he loved and even those that didn’t love him back. And since Ash only hit me once.
Why wouldn’t I forgive him?
TrickyChimera) here. This is the first story that I've worked on and published without Cobalt Raccoon's help. I mean sure he proofread it, but that's it. It's not very "Furry" persay, but I'm proud of it. I'm also glad that I'm continued it even though it's been over a year later. I hope you enjoy it as I attempted to stell the story from a different person's perspective this time. The first story can be found here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7876966/ Issy the Dog
______________________________________________________________________ My name is Angela Delton. Yes, I’m a woman, an actual woman. You shouldn’t be reading my story if you haven’t already read my brother-in-law’s. Yes, I’m talking about Ash Delton. If you don’t know who that is then you shouldn’t continue reading this until you do. My husband’s real name is Jessie Delton. I’m willing to bet that you’d think that I’m crazy for dating (let alone marrying) a man like Jessie. You may already know my husband, but you certainly don’t know me. The truth is that I didn’t know anything about Issy when we were dating.
Don’t get me wrong. I truly love him for who he is and who he pretends to be. For better or worse. He’s a very good dog, but he’s also a great husband. Whether he thinks that he’s really a dog or not is irrelevant to me. He loves me and I love him and that’s all that really matters to both of us. This is how I know…
When I first met Issy, I was going by the name of Angela March. My husband was going by the name of Jessie Delton. Not by his own choice though. I did find it a little weird that he never spoke to people, but I liked him. He was sweet. Not that he’s not sweet now. He’s just much more affectionate now than he is sweet. At least to me…
According to Ash, it had been about five years since Issy had come into his life. However, we were dating for over a year before I officially met Issy. I was a Junior in college attempting to obtain my Bachelors in Business. I met Jessie in one of my minor classes. I had missed a few days of class and needed some notes. Well, Jessie was always paying attention in class. I figured that I could simply copy off of him.
He told me… well, wrote me. See Jessie isn’t able to speak. He knew sign language, but most people don’t (at the time this included myself). He said that he never takes notes, but he could write up the basics of the lecture for me. He had more than just a few notes ready for me by noon and well… he interest me a bit. So I asked him to stay for lunch. After that, we spent every chance we got eating together and comparing notes. I met his brother a month later.
Well… ‘met’ would be the nice way to put it. When Ash saw us together, he was beyond furious and frantic.
“Jessie! I’ve been looking everywhere for you,” Ashley shouted as he ran across the cafeteria, “Where have you been?”
Jessie tried to say something, but not a sound came out. He looked at me for help. Ash took one look at me and back at his brother.
“Who is this?”
“I’m Angela March,” I decided to speak up, “I’m sorry we were discussing notes and-”
“Nice to meet you,” Ash quickly took hold of his brother, “but You were not supposed to be in class today.”
Jessie tried to defend himself with words, but all he could muster was this cute little squeaking sound. I didn’t have time to admire it.
“Let go of him,” I shoved Ash, not knowing who he was, “Just who do you think you are?”
“I’m Ash,” he answer grabbing hold of Jessie again, “Iss-…ahem, I’m Jessie’s brother.”
“Well, like I said, Jessie and I were just having our normal lunch,” I glared at him, “and we were having a decent time until you got here Jack!”
“It’s Ash.”
“I know what I said. Being his brother doesn’t give you the right to treat him like he’s dirt,” I cracked my knuckles, “Got it?”
I can only assume that Ash was shocked at what I had said as Jess took this moment to shake free of his brother’s grip. Ash was about to grab him again when he paused. I assumed that Ash had just now realized how rude he had been and decided to try to salvage what little he could, “he’s never mentioned you before.”
“I’m surprised he hasn’t,” I said, “We’ve had lunch together for over half a semester.”
“Really, he told me that he was…” Ash raised an eyebrow and looked at his brother again. Jess frowned as if he was in trouble. Ash smiled slowly, “I see…”
“What?”
“For the past few weeks, Jess told me that he was sitting in on another course,” Ash’s smile almost doubled in size, “He lied to me to spend time with you.”
Jess squeaked as he tried to say something, but his embarrassment was more than clear. He tried signing (I guess) “I didn’t lie” in the air. He did sit in on a course, but it didn’t start until after our lunch together. Yet his attempts at explaining that only made him even more frustrated. I don’t even think that he was really signing anything. I could see why he couldn’t now.
“Oh…,” I blushed. Why I didn’t see it before is beyond me. Jessie liked me too.
“Well, she is kind of cute, bro,” Ash poked him in the ribs, “Why didn’t you tell me about her.”
Jess happily pointed at him, pinched his fingers and finished by raising his hands as if he was in prayer. Ash made a face at him and Jess followed with a smug smile and shrug. I had no clue what all of that had meant.
“What did he say?”
“He said that I didn’t ask,” Ash translated for me.
I laughed at that. Jess sighed blissfully. Anyone could tell that he loves my laugh.
“Tell you what,” Ash turned around, “why don’t the two of you just make it official?”
“Make what official?”
Jess quickly took up his notepad and wrote on it. “Will you go out with me,” Jessie turned it around and wrote again in big bold letters, “Please?”
“Why not,” I nodded, “there’s a movie that I’ve been wanting to see. See you at five?”
Jessie turned to Ash, silently asking for permission. Well, he didn’t use words, but he did this thing that reminded me of a young child who really wanted a treat.
“Do you want to go out with her or not,” Ash asked him, Jess nodded, “then just do it. I can handle the company for one night.”
Jess took hold of his brother in this bear hug motion. Very clearly saying ‘thank you’, but continuing to make a big scene in the cafeteria.
“What company?”
“Jessie runs his own online company,” Ash explained, quickly shoving his brother off of him, “he usually has meetings every few days or so. There was one tonight, but I’ll cover for him.”
“Really which one?”
“Trust me, you haven’t heard of them,” Ash motioned for Jess to follow him, “How about he’ll meet you at the theater. Is that okay with you, Angela was it?”
Jess nodded at me, almost begging me to say yes. He really wanted to go on a date with me. He looked so innocent and cute. Personally, those were my weaknesses.
“I’ll see you there,” I scuffed up Jess’s hair a bit, “cutie.”
Jess attempted to give me a hug, but Ash stopped him, “down big boy. We’ve got to get you home and cleaned up.”
~~~~~~~
For the next eight months or so we were officially dating. I didn’t mind that he never spoke, it just made him the better listener. Still, I always felt like Jess wanted to tell me something more. To speak with his words, but of course he couldn’t. He was, however, able to express is words through other methods. My favorite was how he’d always leave notes for me every day. He somehow managed to find a silly pun to use in every note too. (I love puns as much as he does.) He never once made me feel like I wasn’t special and unique. Like I was the center of his entire universe. When my aunt died, he was there to comfort me. He mourned with me. I was invited to meet with his mother and other relatives plenty of times as well.
During one of these visits (the one that we now jokingly call the last supper), Mrs. Delton showed us some old movies of Jessie and Ashley when they were young. (Why she openly called them by their full names is beyond me) I learned that Jessie could speak, least at one point in his life. I had asked Mrs. Delton why Jessie had become mute. She explained that Jessie had contracted a severe case of laryngitis that had damaged his vocal cords. I nodded in understanding and tried to take Jessie’s hand. Yet Jessie didn’t return the gesture. Instead he bit his lip.
After dating Jessie for eight months, I knew that meant Jessie was ashamed of something. The fact was undeniable this time as Jessie seemed to have become distant from me for the rest of the night. I quietly confronted Ash about it and he nodded his head understandably. He told me that they needed some time to prepare for an explanation and that I should meet them the next morning. That was the morning that I finally (and officially) met Issy.
“Okay, I’m here,” I announced to Ash as I entered their apartment.
“Good, I hope you’re ready for this,” Ash said as he shut the door behind me, “Would you like something to drink?”
“No, I want to know why my boyfriend is acting so weird all of the sudden,” I slapped him in the back of the head, “and why you both feel the need to tell me in the morning instead of last night is beyond me.”
“First off, OW,” Ash rubbed the back of his head, “second, you need to calm down otherwise this is going to be… how do I put this?…”
“He’s breaking up with me, isn’t he?”
“No, he’s not,” Ash shook his head, “it’s nothing like that. Actually, it’s kind of the opposite.”
I gave Ash a quizzical look. There’s a whole mess of questions that flooded into my mind. Still, I couldn’t figure out which one to ask first.
“Jessie wants to get serious with you, but h-”
“I thought we already were.”
“You are,” Ash sighed, “but you don’t know everything about your boyfriend. See h-”
“Oh what? Is he some kind of criminal?”
“Could you let me explain woman,” he yelled, “this is something that even our mother doesn’t know about!”
“That big huh,” I asked as Ash only calls me ‘woman’ when I’m being a big mouth. I politely decided to shut up and listen to what he had to say.
“And then some,” Ash offered me a seat, “Frankly, I don’t think that you’re ready for this. I’m certainly not.”
“So what is it,” I plopped myself down.
“You sure you don’t want a drink?”
“Ash…”
“Right,” he rubbed all the way up and down his face, “Where should I start?”
“I guess you could tell me why I feel like he was avoiding me lately,” I laid back a bit, “was it something that I did?”
“No, it’s something that Jessie did a few years ago,” Ash sighed, “he put me in charge of his life and I mean serious charge of his life.”
“Because he couldn’t speak?”
“Because he couldn’t think,” Ash looked me straight in the eyes, “Jessie lost his ability to think.”
“Are you shitting me,” I sat straight up.
“Believe me, I wish I was,” Ash turned his head, “Especially after I met Issy.”
“Issy? Who is Issy?”
“That’s the craziest thing of all,” Ash took another breath, “Issy is Jessie’s real name.”
“…What?”
“Jessie, my real brother got deep into something. Something that he couldn’t get out of. Jessie left me to take care of Issy,” Ash lifted a clearly out of date DVD off the table, “If you like I have the messages that he left for me on this disk. Think of them as his last will and testament, if you like.”
“You’re crazy,” I stood up to leave.
“Hey, I’m the one that told you that it was crazy,” Ash pointed a finger at me, “And you have yet to see the really crazy part of all this!”
The back bedroom door started being pawed at by (what sounded like) a big dog. Well, the pawing sounded like a big dog, like a Doberman. The noises made it sound like a medium sized dog like a small Husky.
“What is that,” I looked back at Ash, “Did you guys get a dog?”
“No, that,” Ash clicked his tongue, “is Issy.”
“But you said that Jessie was Issy.”
“True, but I didn’t say that Issy thought he was human.”
“You mean,” I asked, Ash nodded, “so then?… what the hell…?”
I slowly returned to my seat. My boyfriend has a split personality. Not only that, but his other persona was a dog. A dog of all things. That’s a lot to take in. I tried to breath so that I could calm down. Issy kept whining from behind the closed door. He really wanted out of there.
“Issy stop, sit and be quiet,” Ash ordered, Issy fell silent, “Good boy. Just so you know, Angela. He really likes you.”
“I think I’ll have that drink now.”
“I’ve got vodka,” Ash suggested, moving towards the fridge.
“No, nothing strong,” I raise my hands in the air, “I need to make sure that this isn’t all some kind of alcohol induced delusion later.”
“I know how you feel…,” Ash got out a few glasses and a bottle of coke, “but at least he’s still the same person that you knew.”
“Okay, now you’re not making any sense.”
“When I met Issy, I lost my brother in the process,” Ash stated as he poured the drinks, “but you have always had Issy even though he was pretending to be ‘Jessie’.”
“I guess it does explain some things,” I had noticed that Jessie behaved a little different from the norm. It was only a small sign here and there. Like how his leg bounced every day he was with me, but I shook it off as just nerves. He did love to cuddle and have his hair stroked. Although his butt shaking every time he was happy should have been a dead giveaway, “How did it happen?”
“Hypnosis. Powerful stuff too.”
“Wait,” I got up and walked to the kitchen counter, “hypnosis? As in cluck like a chicken at the snap of my fingers?”
“Yes.”
“Shouldn’t it wear off?”
“Normally yes, but he wasn’t just under for a few minutes for giggles, Angela,” Ash explained, “as far as I can make out, he spent years under the influence until the Pavlov Effect kicked in. You know what that is, right?”
“It was when that scientist trained dogs to drool at the sound of a bell right,” I noticed that I gave Ash a look of shock, “I minored in Psychology.”
“I guess that it would be good for someone going into business,” Ash continued, “But not for Jess. Whatever he did to himself is not only permanent, it’s nearly irreversible too. And believe me, I’ve tried. Every morning he’s on all fours, until I order him to stop.”
“So then he can control it…”
“No, he can’t.”
“But you just said-”
“He listens to me, because that’s how he’s programed.”
“You did it to him?”
“No, I just told you that he did it to himself,” Ash took a swing of coke, “I didn’t even know about it until he gave me that disk, but it was already too late.”
“Well, I knew it had to be something,” I shrugged after a moment of silence, “All the good guys out there are either taken, think that they’re a dog, or worse gay.”
“Low blow there,” Ash crossed his arms. He knew that I was poking fun at him.
After a quick laugh and a long pause, I asked, “Can I see him?”
“Why?”
“Seeing is believing,” I twirled the straw in my coke, “This is something that I have to see for myself.”
“That is what Issy wants,” Ash poured another glass for himself, “I don’t think you’re ready for that. Mentally, I mean.”
“Why not?”
“When I first saw Issy,” Ash looked down, “I thought that he was kidding and hurt him.”
“So you think that I’d do something like that?”
“Issy doesn’t, but I do,” Ash stared into his glass, “you can’t blame me for being protective of him.”
“I promise that I wont hurt your brother,” I crossed my heart, “I wont so much as scream.”
“Forgive me if I’m not convinced.”
“I gave my word.”
“Still,” Ash looked to the door, “It is hard to believe. Even you can’t be that accepting.”
“Look, I love Jessie. I don’t care what condition he’s in or how he acts.”
“I loved my brother too, Angela, but that didn’t stop me from throwing a mug at his head,” Ash snapped at me, bit his lip to calm himself down, “I could have killed him.”
“It came as that big of a shock to you…”
Ash nodded as he continued to stare in his drink, “he’s already forgiven me, but I don’t know if that was true or just Issy wanting to please me. What I wouldn’t give to hear Jessie’s voice tell me, ‘it’s alright. I forgive you’, just once.”
“Ash, I may have not known Jessie as well as I would have hoped,” I placed a hand on Ash’s shoulder, “but the Jess that I’ve gotten to know is sweet, kind, generous and gentle. And you know what? You’re his brother.”
“Yea, so what?”
“I’ve had a few of my own, remember? Big, rough, tough and immature until the day they left home. They put me through all kinds of torture and they’ve never once asked for forgiveness from me,” I tried to get Ash to see the honesty in my eyes, “but it was Jessie that taught me that I should forgive them, because they’re my family. We’re supposed to forgive when we hurt each other.”
“Actually, that was Issy,” Ash admitted, “I don’t know where he picked it up from.”
“Look, Issy may not be the Jessie that you grew up with, but he is the only Jessie that I’ve known,” I said before taking another sip, “well, before today that is.”
“Why are you trying to make this into a joke?”
“I have to do something t…,” I stopped when I heard the door’s lock click. Jessie slowly walked out of the back room. He was holding a book in his hands and walking on two legs. Jessie bore this face of sadness as he dragged his feet into the room. He was wearing a blue dog collar that jingled with each step he took. He was also dressed in a long sweatshirt and shorts. He had a fake tail protruding from his rear and a matching beanie with a pair of fake ears standing straight up.
“I thought you said that he walks on all fours until you tell him to stop.”
“He never has before,” Ash was stunned, “Issy, what are you doing?”
Jess motioned with his hands, I only caught a little bit of it. Still, there were some signs that I didn’t recognize. The parts that I did recognize was the word ‘love’ multiple times. Through the whole ordeal Jessie’s expression didn’t change. His legs were shaking almost violently as if he wasn’t used to standing. Ash nodded understandably before Jessie signed him something that involved him patting his hip and flipping his pointer finger.
“Go ahead buddy. She says she doesn’t mind.”
Jessie quickly signed ‘O K’ and dropped to all fours. He placed the book next to him without damaging it. His eyes brightened up as he held his mouth open slightly. He didn’t stick his tongue out, but he was breathing a little harder than normal.
“What was that all about?”
“Basically, Issy says that he loves you, and he also loves being himself. He’s frightened that you’re going to reject who he really is, but he’s willing to change for you,” Ash acknowledged the next section of the translation was the embarrassing part, “Then he asked if it was alright if he got back to doggy time.”
“Awe… come here Issy,” I squatted and patted my knees for Issy to come. Issy happily ran over to me. I mean on all fours, not baby crawling either. He would have jumped me but he stopped short of doing so and laid his head on my knee instead. I lightly stroked his hair and he wiggled his tailed butt.
“Seriously, you’re not phased by this?”
“No, I am completely shocked,” I laughed at the sight of Jessie acting like this, “it helped that you eased me into it.”
“But you’re acting like this is nothing special!”
“Having five big brothers must have caused me to develop a subconscious desire to be in complete control of my life and a dog for boyfriend will allow me to satisfy those needs,” I smirked at him, “that or he’s just so much cuter like this.”
“You’re pulling my leg now, aren’t you?”
“I was joking. You know that I only have two brothers,” I said sitting down in a more comfortable position, “ but I really do think that he’s adorable. I can’t help loving him more.”
“Why?”
“Why what?”
“Why do you love him?”
“I can’t explain it,” I looked down, “he’s sweet and sincere. That’s more than what I wanted in a guy, but Jessie’s so much more than that to me. He’s smart, dependable and he gets me. He understands me and he treats me like-”
“Like you’re the center of his whole world,” Ash finished my sentence, “Yeah he’s real great at taking care of everyone else, but he’s terrible at taking care of himself.”
I looked up at Ash as he moved back to the den. He sighed once before continuing, “I once left him for a few days. He kept the apartment spotless, but nearly starved to death, simply because he forgot to feed himself.”
“And you’re asking me if I can love someone who does that?”
“Basically,” Ash shrugged. My response was to kiss Jess. He responded to me, by returning my affection. I didn’t care what other interests he had, I loved him. And he cared about me enough to tell me (even if he didn’t technically tell me himself). I only hoped that it was enough to convince Ash. It wasn’t. He coughed to get us to stop.
“Jess also doesn’t have a paying job.”
“What about that company that he owns?”
“Made it up,” Ash shrugged, “the company board meetings are actually a cover for Issy’s doggy time. The only reason that he goes to college is to give the appearance of normality.”
“I see,” I looked down at my boyfriend. The company was a lie? I had to ask myself, ‘do I really want a boyfriend like this?’ I couldn’t help it. Did I want to seriously date someone who spent all their spare time being a dog? Someone who was completely unable to take care of himself physically.
“If you two get married then it would be your responsibility to take care of him.”
“Stop talking about Jessie like that,” I frowned, my heart knew the answer before my mind did, “he may act like a dog, but he’s still a human being. He’s willing to change for me, but I don’t think I want him to.”
“Care to explain?”
“I don’t know. This is a side of Jess,” I stroked Issy’s hair as he laid in my lap, “it’s a part of him that he enjoys. It’s obviously something that he can’t control and it’s important to him. Yet he said that he’s willing to change for me. No, he shouldn’t change at all. Not like that. I mean it when I say that I love Jessie. And Issy isn’t worse thing that I thought this was about. It’s not like he’s hurting anyone or that he’s completely unreliable. If he can take care of our home, then I wouldn’t mind taking care of everything else.”
“Good answer,” Ash’s eyes fluttered from astonishment, “I mean, I wasn’t expecting you to say all that, but that is actually really… touching.”
“Hey, most guys I’ve met only wanted one thing,” I stuck my finger up, “but Jessie only wants to be with me.”
“Okay, I’m convinced and I concede,” Ash mockingly bowed before placing a finger to his lips, “I trust that you’ll keep this a secret.”
“Of course,” I joked, “I don’t want anyone else to be playing with my boyfriend.”
“Good to know,” Ash smiled, “ready to watch the video?”
“What video?”
“Jess, the original Jess, left something for whoever becomes Issy’s girlfriend.”
Jess took the time to set up the camera before sitting down at his computer. He looked so normal compared to the Jessie that had his head in my lap. Ash was in the kitchen cooking eggs or something. He said that he’d already seen the recording several times already. It took me a bit off guard to actually hear Jessie’s true voice for the first time.
“Hey, this is a message for Ash and my… mate,” Jessie bit his lip, “I’m sorry, I hate to call you that. I’m also very sorry that I’m not a normal person. I know that Issy is hard to accept and that there’s no real way for him to help us all live a somewhat normal life. So, I’m going to help the two of you out.”
Jessie clicked on his computer and another screen popped up. It contained information that most people wouldn’t be able to understand. I understood the gist of it. These were cost-volume-profit analysis, or business graphs for those of you not in college.
“As you can see, I’ve decided to create a small company,” Jessie leaned back and smiled, “It’s already a big hit and I mean a really big hit. I’ve already earned a few thousand. Maybe you’ll recognize the logo I made for it.”
Jessie clicked a few more buttons on his computer, so that this image popped up.

I actually laughed at the pun that was made by Jessie. Or at least the past Jessie. Issy smiled like he always did when I laughed. Our love of puns was one thing that the both… all three of us had in common. At least both Jess’s personalities were the same.
“What’s so funny,” Ash looked up from his cooking.
“Oh nothing,” I shouted to Ash in the kitchen, “ I thought you said that the company was just a cover.”
“Sometimes it is,” was his reply, “keep watching.”
“Master Your Life Entirely, or MYLE (Mile) in your own shoes,” Jessie bobbed his head as he spoke, “Home of the finest therapeutic products that money can buy. But the one thing that’s really selling is our Hypnosis products.”
Jessie raised his hands quickly at the camera as if he wanted me to calm down,“Now, I’m sure the first thing that you’re thinking is that what happened to me will repeat itself. I’ve already taken Major precautions to prevent that from happening. For starters, I’ve deleted every single script that I used on myself. I’ve added time limits on any Transformation sessions.”
Jess laughed to himself a bit as he shook his head. He seemed to regret ever creating such products, “Who would have thought those would have been the ones people requested the most for. Still, if you need to create a new one Ash, I’ve kept notes on how to do it on my computer. Please don’t derive from any of the warnings in my notes. There’s also certain videos that I do not want you guys to EVER make, okay? I entrust these to you, Ash, but my mate,” Jess looked back up at the screen, “whoever you are, please respect my wishes as well. No matter how much we will need money, there are some lines that must never be crossed… I’m a living example of that.”
I wasn’t quite sure what he meant by those ‘lines’, but I felt as if it wasn’t just what had happened to him. I learned later from Ash, that he meant anything that they had considered immoral. Ash himself admitted he was tempted to using MYLE products to bring a few of his own fantasies to life. Just tempted…
Issy looked up at me and sat up a bit. As if he knew what my reaction would be for the next sentence that the old Jess was going to tell me.
“Oh, but that reminds me,” Jess spoke up again, biting his lip, “there’s also one more condition before we get any more serious than this. You have to watch one of my videos. It’s not that I don’t trust you, it’s just a precautionary thing. It will create a key phrase that will be used to erase your memories of ever being told of our secret.”
“What,” I asked, dumbfounded at what he was asking of me.
“You know my secret. And I really hope that you are the One. But sometimes hope’s not enough,” Jess paused to bite his lip again, “I can Hope that it wont rain, but I still bring an umbrella just in case. You understand?”
I paused the DVD. I didn’t need to hear the rest. I marched over to where Ash was finishing up making eggs. Issy tilted his head at my actions before he decided to follow me on all fours. Ash just turned around as I entered the kitchen area. He nearly dropped the frying pan at what I said next.
“Where is it,” I shouted, “I’m going to get it over with. Quick like a bandage!”
“What,” Ash looked back and forth for a place to put the hot frying pan down, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“The video for my key phrases. If I have to watch it, I want to do it now.”
“You sure,” Ash asked as he slid the last set of eggs on an open plate.
“I have to,” I nodded firmly regardless of his uneasiness, “The sooner the better.”
“Okay,” Ash looked down at the food he just finished making, “can we at least eat first. I heard that my eggs are amazing.”
“No now! The more conditioning I have, the more likely it will take root.”
“Trust me, it can wait,” Ash picked up the three plates to take to the table, “besides, I’m starving.”
“But…,” I paused when the scent of the eggs finally hit me, “I suppose it can wait.”
“Okay then,” Ash turned his attention to Jess, “Breakfast time, buddy.”
Jess automatically rose back up to two feet, albeit he still looked a little silly because of his clothing. He started to follow me when he suddenly remembered, turned around and moved back toward the bedroom. I didn’t notice this as I was walking over to the table. That is until Issy barked at the two of us. Ash and I looked up. We were both reminded of the book that was still on the floor.
We all had forgotten he brought it in at all. Issy barked again apparently it was very important that we see what he wanted to show us. The both of us stepped forward to investigate. I picked the auburn leather book up. I didn’t see what it was until I flipped it over. The golden letters were unmistakable.
“It’s a bible,” I handed it to Ash.
Jess slapped his hand on the counter so that he got our attention. He followed by signing, “L U K E… 2 3… 3 4”
“You want me to read it,” Ash tilted his head as Jess nodded.
“You know I haven’t picked one of these up in months,” Ash said scrolling through the pages until he found what he was looking for, “Luke Twenty-three, Thirty… oh my god…”
Ash fell silent, placing a hand over his mouth. I would have thought that he was about to drop the book. For the first time since I met Ash, he cried. He wasn’t just crying lightly either. He went all out bailing. He tried to stop himself, but he just couldn’t. Unlike his brother, Jessie smiled. Sure, he was shaking his tailed butt, but that’s not what a normal person would do. He smiled like a normal person would.
“What? What is it,” I asked, “What does it say?”
“It says…,” Ash snorted, “it says ‘forgive them Father…(*snort) for they do not know what they’re doing’… Issy’s saying he forgives me.”
Issy barked happily and hugged his brother. Ash returned the hug, but continued crying. I would have thought that he was a crybaby, but even guys have their weak moments.
Huh?
Wait! did I just…?
No, I couldn’t have…
Okay, for a split instant, I thought that I saw someone different. Someone other than Issy or Jessie hugging Ash. Or at least the Jessie that I knew. It was something about his eyes. It must have been a trick of the light, right? It only happened once after all. Still, I think that the apparition lipped, ‘It’s alright’ a few times before disappearing.
Below is a sheet of paper that Jessie wrote on when I asked Ash the significance of the Bible verse to the two of them.
Luke 23:34 is about what Jesus went through for those that he loved and even those that didn’t love him back. And since Ash only hit me once.
Why wouldn’t I forgive him?

I find this story, and the previous one, very touching. It probably has to do with our sharing a very specific interest (a fascination with the choice to reject one's own humanity and embrace a more primal, innocent, and obedient side of oneself via hypnotic transformation into a dog), but this is, to me, a wonderful story of unconditional love, family, and sacrifice. This story comes closest of any written work to moving me to tears. If this were how such transformation actually functioned, it would be both an incredible experience and too dangerous to attempt without accepting some serious repercussions. I would ask you to write more, but I don't want to pressure you into writing a sequel if it decreases in quality due to this being the "real" ending of the story. Kudos to you, good sir.
Thank you very much. You're my very first critic and… you know?
I'm glad you like it so much. Those were the exact emotions and struggles that I was trying to convey and am thrilled that it shows clearly through my narration. As for a sequel, I was already working on that since before part 1 (over a year ago). I originally planed for it to be a five part story, but I (Anthony) haven't been able to really work on it until more recently and might not be able to finish the next section for yet another year.
That's the downside to the college life, I guess. Believe me, I'm going to try to keep the same quality that the first two have before I ever think about posting the next part. Again, Thank you very much!
