This is one of the best gifts I have ever been given, and I've only now got around to requesting permission from the original artist to post it.
For those of you who may not know, I wrote a short story fan-fic based on James Bruner's 'Zig Zag: The Story'. My story is called 'Fade to Grey', and it can be found here on my FA account.
After reading James Bruner's story, I was inspired to write an account of what might have happened far into the future, at the twilight of James' and Zig's lives together (when they are both around 80 years old). I don't want to release any spoilers for those who haven't read the story, but I'm afraid this image may be a huge spoiler in itself. (Forgive me!)
In chapter 2 of my story, I created a scene where James was holding Zig in his arms during the middle of the night, because she was too weak and sick to sit up on her own.
Imagine my surprise when
Cirrel came on to the story forums and said that he had read my story, enjoyed it, and drew this pic for it. It honestly brought me to tears right here in my office at work. I was humbled beyond words, and I immediately asked him if I could include it as part of my story on the Raccoon's Bookshelf.
This picture of James Sheppard and Zig Zag was done by
Cirrel, one of those furs out there that I truly admire and look up to. I cannot thank him enough for the honor he gave me with this work of art.

My story, "Fade to Grey", is a short written about Zig Zag and her family far into the future, when she is in her twilight years. Cirrel did a fantastic job portraying a scene from chapter 2.
I'd be delighted if you would read the story and find out for yourself what happened.

Thin wisps of snowy white hair crisscross the pillow, framing a face weary with pain. Tired eyes turn toward you, and you can still catch a hint of the fiery spirit that lies behind them. With a weak smile, Zig Zag closes her eyes and releases a shallow sigh.
"I've been better," she answers at length, her voice cracking slightly.

You feel a light touch on your chin as Zig gently lifts your face with two fingers.
"Heeey," she says with a soothing grin, "none of that now." She brushes a playful finger across your cheek, wiping a stray tear from your eye. For a brief moment, her eyes sparkle with mischief as they did long ago during her years in front of the camera. It is a stark contrast to the deep lines of age that now outline her features.
