Hey there folks! =D Here's the next part of the auditions for Team Pre-K's new member!
The day has come for Pre-K, but just setting up for the audition turns out to be more of a chore than they expected due to people dropping in to wish them well, offer help, and generally cause chaos. What happens? Read to find out! =D

It was 3:00 P.M. and gym B – 4 was full of the hustle and bustle of little paws… and a large and heavy set of hooves as Team Pre-K and their coach Maddie worked to set up everything for the auditions that’d be starting in about thirty minutes… if anybody showed up at all. While Jane and Jules set up the folding table they’d managed to borrow a little away from the center of the gym and facing the door Maddie and the others worked to set up a few folding chairs and a smaller table of refreshments Maddie had prepared for anyone who was kind of enough to show up… even if she had to keep an eye on Petie to make sure he kept his chubby little paws off them.
“I don’t get why I can’t be a judge… I’d be a great Judge!”
“Jules dear we already talked about this. Andrew, Sammi, and Petie will be the ones interviewing the applicants, and it’s not judging them. This isn’t Kanto Idol you know.”
“Would be if you’d let Rose help, she said she could get spotlights, sound effects, and everything!”
Everybody just looked away at that as Jules giggled innocently, unaware that Rose’s offer to “Help” wasn’t considered a good thing by the rest of his friends. It had taken some fast talking and a few compromises from Maddie, as well as Petie promising to try on outfits later, but they’d managed to send the kangaskhan down to Team Shellshock’s studio to talk and try on costumes with the four… and sent Dai down there to help distract Rose till they were done.
It’d been the first crisis they’d adverted for the auditions and they hoped the rest of it would go as smoothly.
There was a knock from the door, as a tall, muscular raichu girl stepped in, followed by a Persian girl who was carrying a heavy looking bag with her. "Can we come in yet?" the raichu asked with a light smile. Maddie blinked at the two as she looked up from shooing Petie away from the refreshments for the tenth time. She knew both of these mon in passing due to their connection with Pre-K so she smiled welcomingly "Abbie, Lauren, nice to see you. And of course but auditions don't start for another thirty minutes..." she paused and tilted her head a little "But I don't think you're here to audition are you?" she asked, since if they were they had obviously skipped reading the height requirements on the flyer... not to mention she wasn't sure if they were already in a team or not.
Abbie laughed and shook her head as Lauren made her way to the side with her bag. "No, we came to watch. And to see if there was anything we could help with." She folded her arms and looked to Andrew. "Choosing a new member isn't a small thing after all." there was a moment of silence at Abbie’s comment followed by “... that a bad attempt at a Joke?" Sammi asked before resuming cussing under her breath as she struggled with a folding chair that had taken her tail hostage. Andrew meanwhile blushed and shrunk a little under Abbie's gaze like a timid little brother afraid of shaming his older sibling.
Abbie shrugged and smiled. "I do often hear my sense of humor is kind of dry." She walked up to Andrew and kneeled down to his level. "Well, how are you feeling Andrew? You're taking another step forward with your team." The pichu squeaked and blushed furiously under the attention, cheeks sparking a little "D-d-does t-terrified c-count? Chuuuu..." he said timidly, looking down. Abbie smiled and patted his head gently. "It does. What is it that frightens you so?" Andrew blushed more at the head pats "... t-trying to pick out s-somebody.. .chuuu... w-who c-can help the team... t-trying to look like I k-know w-what I'm doing t-to the a-auditioners..." he admitted sounding a little ashamed.
Abbie smiled and lifted his chin. "That's why you aren't the only one deciding here. The three of you should come to a decision of what is a credit to the team. And I'd say you do know what you're doing." Andrew blinked a little "Wait... h-how'd you k-know t-there's be t-three people d-deciding chuuu?" he asked, tilting his head a little in confusion.
She giggled quietly and tapped his forehead lightly. "Simple deduction. Why else would you have set up three chairs behind the table? Quick analysis can tell quite a lot… that and I could hear Jules out in the hall.” Andrew blushed and giggled a little at that, ears twitching cutely. "That's better" Abbie smiled. "And I'll be here if you need advice or support." Andrew smiled happily and hugged the amazon raichu as best he could due to their sheer size difference "T-thank you chuu." She hugged him back. "Anytime, Andrew."

Meanwhile Lauren set her bag down in the corner and walked to Maddie. "Any estimates or hopes of how many will show up?" Maddie sighed a little as she worked to free a less than grateful Sammi "To be honest I'd be happy if as many as three showed up. I'm fairly worried the flyers might have gone unnoticed..." the miltank admitted. "Yeah" Lauren shrugged. "I saw some of them flyers. And frankly I'm thinking that the height requirement is a bit too wishful thinking..." A snort from the dratini got both their attention as Maddie gave a half amused smile and shrugged "They insisted.”
Lauren laughed and gave a narrow grin. "Of course. And speaking of insisting, I would've had better things to do today..." she sighed as she looked up. Maddie smiled slightly "Did Ashley ask you to come?" Lauren cocked an eyebrow. "Word gets around, huh?" The cow nodded and laughed softly "That and Andrew was very happy his cousin found somebody. Hard not to ask what's the reason when you see him in such an adorably good mood." she cooed, grinning a little.
Lauren chuckled quietly. "Aahh, Andrew, should have guessed. If it wasn't him spreading the news, I might be less happy about it." Maddie smiled at that "I can imagine..." she said "In the meantime would you mind terribly helping us set up? Sammi seems to have a slight problem with folding chairs..." the comment would have gotten a painful shin kick if anybody else had said it but the little dratini just snorted and looked away blushing angrily as Maddie smiled affectionately... and coughed to get Petie's attention as he'd snuck around behind her and was reaching for a cookie "Don't even think about it little mister." she said with an authoritarian tone... making the teddiursa pout and sulk away.
"Sure I can help" the persian shrugged. "Don't have much else to do until the auditions start..." Maddie smiled "Thank you." she said motioning to the folding chairs "We just have a few more to set out so it shouldn't take too long." Lauren nodded and started unfolding and setting the chairs, looking around a little. "A refreshment table? Class A host, aren't you?" she said while smirking slightly. Maddie blushed furiously at this "I'm just trying to be polite is all..." She laughed and shook her head. "Why none of my team auditions had these?"
Maddie just shrugged, not sure how to answer "Well I spent time last night making all these..." she said looking at the spread of treats not sure what more to say "... anyway would you like to hear how we plan on having the auditions work?" Lauren rolled her eyes, thinking for a second before nodding. "Sure. I was intending to take notes during the auditions anyway." Maddie nodded then tilted her head a little "Really? What for?" The persian gave her a slightly amused grin. "To have something to tell about. I'm not the most vocal supporter, but I do enjoy what the team does."
Maddie's smile grew at that "And I'm sure they appreciate your support." she said, folding out the last chair "As for how things will go the chairs are in case we get more than one applicant coming in at a time. We plan on having the auditioners stand in front of the table..." motions to the set up table where Jane was draping a table cloth over it to make it look more professional "introduce themselves, show their moves, and then have our judges... Andrew, Sammi, and Petie ask them a few questions. After which I'll take down their name and how to contact them. After everyone has auditioned the team will decide who they want and that'll be that."
Lauren nodded. "Simple enough. Let's hope this goes well." That got a laugh out of Maddie as she shook her head "I'm not optimistic enough to hope for that... I just hope that we can keep it from going too horribly wrong... in the meantime since it looks like we're done how about some snacks?" she said with a smile... as a certain teddiursa cheered happily.

Everybody had had a snack from the table, Petie & Jane unhappy they weren’t allowed seconds, and had settled into waiting till it was time for the festivities to start as Andrew sat in Abbie’s lap with Jane nearby, Lauren & Sammi were off by their lonesome in their own corners, Petie and Jules were playing rock, paper, scissors to pass the time, and Maddie was giving everything another once over to make sure it was all in place as they all were counting down the time with ten minutes left to go.
Just as the door opened and three figures entered… first was a poochyena boy who was walking on all fours like a feral as his nose twitched “Here it.” He said as a tiny gohtita girl waddled in after him, looking awkwardly at the mon in the room “Um, hello?” as the last of them, a perky looking yanma girl, stuck her head in to look around and immediately zipped over to Petie “Petie-P!? You here!? You here!?” she chirped eagerly as Petie blinked in surprise as he stuttered “Carrie? Toni? Rex? What are you doing here?” he asked as the rest of his team just looked on in confusion.
Toni the gothita pointed at the poochyena “Rex’s nose caught your scent.” She said as the grinning puppy added “And cookies.” Petie tilted his head a little at this “So you aren't here for the auditions...” he thought for a moment then looked up again “Anyway you guys are on a team already aren't you?” he asked as Jules giggled and waved to the little psychic and the dark type “Hi Toni! Hi Rex!” as the two waved back. Carrie the yanma nodded eagerly and smiled “Yep! We’re Team Happ-“
“Modern Fantasy.” Toni said, coughing to cut Carrie off as she waddled over to the group, Rex happily padding along behind her, and tilted her head a little “and did you say auditions? Wish I could help, but I am not very good at acting.” By now all of Team Pre-K and Maddie had noticed the gothita’s waddling and thanks to their knowledge of Petie and the rumors that’d been flying around had an idea about what it was… naturally Sammi was the one with the lack of tact to bring it up as she asked “... you're the student in diapers we've been hearing about aren't you?”
“Ignore her.” Petie said before Toni could get huffy and angry “And we're auditioning for a new alternate member of our team.” He added, talking fast to try and change the topic. This seemed to work as Rex’s face lit up “Oh? Can us stay, can us watch?” he asked as Toni shrugged and added “We are on break now, so if they do not mind we could stay. What do you say, Carrie?” she asked, looking to her bug friend… who just now seemed to be noticing the rest of Team Pre-K in the room “Tinies... tinies... all over the place...” she murmured, zipping high into the air so her compound eyes could take in everything better.
“… if she starts hugging anybody, especially me, there’s going to be murder.” Sammi muttered, eyeing Carrie before looking over at Rex “and who’s the talking dog?” This one prompted a reaction from Toni as she pouted softly and glared at Sammi for a moment before looking to Petie “Are you sure we are welcome? Few things are more unwelcoming than a snotty jerk who acts like she knows people and can rip them freely. I keep one at bay enough times a week.” She said as Rex, who seemed quite calm about this, looked to Toni and commented “Rex thinks dratini be grumpy.”
Petie rubbed the back of his head and looked away at that “... actually that's Sammi when she's in a normal mood.” He mumbled as Sammi snorted dismissively “All I did was ask questions. After all if you are the diaper girl I've won five bucks.” She said making Toni give a very flat expression as she dryly commented “...I do not know if being a gamble object should make me feel better or worse.” To which Sammi just shrugged “Worse probably.”
Meanwhile Carrie’s big bug eyes had locked on Andrew as she zipped right up to the pichu with an even bigger grin on her face “And you're the cutest cutie around! Forgive me Petie! I'm Carrie, what's your name, chubby chub!?” she cooed, making Andrew squeak in fear as Abbie pulled him away a little protectively and Petie sighed as he tugged on Carrie’s leg to get her attention “That's my team captain Andrew... please stop scaring him.” He said as the yanma blinked in surprise “I did? Sowwy... though dat makes him even cuter, teehee.” She gushed making both boys sigh as Andrew let out an exasperated “Chu…”
Sammi turned her attention to the bug, a disbelieving, slightly disturbed look on her face “... dear lugia it's the second coming of Kimmie...” she mutters… as Toni reflexively twitches at the mention of Kimmie’s name and glares at Sammi “D-don't compare Carrie with that abomination!!” she shouts as Sammi just rolled her eyes at little at the psychics display and shrugged “... so you know her? And fine... I'll apologize for that one, but only on the grounds NOBODY could be as bad as Kimmie.”
Meanwhile Rex seemed completely oblivious to the commotion going on around him as he padded over to Maddie and asked “How do Petie an' friends take auditions?” Maddie looked at him for a moment, a little perplexed and curious about the odd mon, but answered anyway “Well they're looking for a particular kind of fighter... so they were going to have the auditioners perform their moves for the judges, Andrew, Sammi, and Petie, and then they were going to ask a few questions...” she explained making Rex grin even more as his tail wagged and he spoke up eagerly.
“Oh... can Rex try!?”
There was a brief pause in the little circles of commotion in the gym as everybody looked as if they were trying to make sure they heard that right. Blinking in confusion Toni looked to her friend and asked the obvious question “...what!?” as Maddie tilted her head and looked even more confused “... um... aren't you already on a team?” Neither question did anything to dampen Rex’s spirit as he just smiled and nodded “Rex just want to try out, audition sound fun.”
There was a moment of silence followed by Andrew climbing down from Abbie’s lap and timidly saying “... chuuu... a t-test run m-might d-do some good...” which made Sammi roll her eyes “Fine, we got ten minutes to kill anyway.” As the whole team started to move and get into positions for their first audition. Toni, still a little stunned, climbed into one of the audience seats to get a good view as Carrie giggled and flew over to settled into the seat next to her. Rex cantered over to stand in front of the judges table, tail still wagging, as he asked “Do Rex start now?”
“Give them a minute to get ready dear.” Maddie giggled, amused at how eager Rex was. Andrew, Petie, and Sammi all headed to the table and climbed into their respective booster seats, taking a few moments to get situated and set up. Petie seemed the least confused about this since he knew Rex and was used to the puppy’s quirks while Andrew was visibly perplexed and Sammi just looked annoyed… like always. Like before if Rex could sense any of the confusion it did nothing to dampen his spirit as he smiled up to them “Do Rex start now? What do Rex do first?”
“First you can tell us why you talk like that and walk on all fours.”
“Sammi! We talked about this!”
“What!? It’s a decent question! Sides remember you told me I could ask any questions I wanted?”
“… I didn’t mean asking things like that… there are more tactful ways to ask those things…”
Rex’s friendly and eager demeanor only slightly diminished at the question as he waited for Sammi and Maddie to finish arguing before he responded in a dry tone “Born like this, Rex used to it. Rex can still fight good.” He finished as Petie & Andrew looked to Sammi to see how she’d react. Sammi sat for a moment before giving a slight smile that for once wasn’t condescending or mocking “Fine, show me and I'll believe it.” She said in a tone that sounding like she was actually interested “Show us what you can do.” Petie and Andrew blink in utter confusion and exchanged stunned looks at this reaction.
“Okay, shiny head.” Rex said, his eyes glow faintly as he teased Sammi, Toni snickering a little in the audience… as the rest of Pre-K went pale. The electricity of an anger created Thunder-Wave crackled overs Sammi’s body as she gave Rex a genuine death glare “Don't. Go. There.” She said in a furious and barely restrained tone… as Petie and Andrew frantically scooted their chairs away from her.
“Shiny head so shiny it sparkles!” Rex called merrily as he continued the Taunt, Toni laughing from the seats. Maddie quickly stepped in so Sammi couldn’t see Rex around the cow’s large posterior as she whispered to the puppy “She WILL attack you if you keep that up, even with Taunt… which I’m guessing is what your using? She's as sensitive about that as you and your friend might be about your own issues... and she was being nicer than normal to you before...” she coughtly lightly, looking a little nervous “That and I think having to break up an actual fight would really derail the auditions so please...”
Rex tilted his head and whispered back” Rex need dratini attack… to show move…” he said, looking up at Maddie as she nodded “I know you wanted to show your Taunt but when Sammi gets angry she SAMMI NO!!” Maddie shouted as there was the sound of something leaping off a table to clear the large cow obstructing her view. On reflex Rex used Oder Sleuth to figure out which angle the dratini was coming from and leap out of striking range…
Just as Sammi’s tail SLAMMED down on the floor where Rex had been hard enough to echo throughout the gym, Lauren jumped from her corner and Maddie stepped forward, both about to try to break up the fight. Before they could Rex jumped forward to pin the tail with his paws and spoke in a collected tone “Rex sorry, calm please.” Which got him a headlock for his troubles as Sammi was visibly resisting genuinely trying to hurt the dark type as she growled through gritted teeth “You're not gonna mention THAT again, RIGHT?” as Rex took the headlock, even putting on a little show of being affected by it, in an attempt to appease the dratini “N-no, R-rex n-no say m-more t-that.”
“Good.” Sammi said bluntly, as she let Rex go before stomping back to the table muttering to herself something bout genetic conditions, proving yourself, and general angry gibberish. Getting back up Rex smiled to Maddie before looking back to the judges as Sammi climbed back into her booster seat “Rex show more moves?” he asked as Andrew sighed, visible relieved that hadn’t turned into a brawl “Y-yes please chuuu...” he said as Rex grinned broadly, his mouth glowing with faint dark energy, as he asked.
“Toss Rex stick please.”
There was a moment of silence as all of Pre-K, minus “Oblivious-to-social-awkwardness” Jules, looked a little uncomfortable with a request like that coming from somebody like Rex. Even Maddie seemed a little uncomfortable with it as she looked to Toni and Carrie to see if he was serious. Before they could answer Jules managed to dig up a baton some absentminded cheerleader had left in the gym and threw it to Rex “Here you go, catch!” he chirped, tail wagging just as much as Rex’s since he wanted to see what the poochyena would do.
Leaping into the air like a dog catching a Frisbee Rex caught the baton out of the air and utterly crushed it into shards as he bit down, having to spit them out as he landed. Andrew and Petie sat wide eyed and impressed before clapping along with the rest of Team Pre-K… minus Sammi who was trying to hide being impressed and dryly commented “... well, hope whoever owned that doesn't come looking for it anytime soon...”
From the audience Toni puffed her chest out a little, smiling proudly at hearing the clapping “Well, it might look silly, but we train that Bite a lot. Aaaand it is not even his strongest move.” She said boastfully… as Carrie giggled and said “Though you could put a lil' bit of that effort in your own moves.” Which took the wind right out of Toni’s sails as she shrunk back down in her seat and blushed “...that was uncalled for...” she mumbled, prompting Carrie to hug her.
Sammi rolled her eyes at this “... less you’re the one breaking batons in half with your teeth don't get braggy little miss pampers.” She said which made Petie glare at her as she just shrugged in response “What? She wants to brag she can come down here and show what she can do. Right now it's the pup's turn.” Causing Jules to poke his head up between her and Andrew “Me?” he asked… as Sammi groaned and put her face in her hand “The OTHER pup... Rex, right?” she asked, looking to make sure she got his name right.
“Right.” Rex said, body stiffening as he gathered energy and set his sights on a nearby punching bag. Meanwhile Toni hung her head a little and mumbled “...and I try...” in a barely audible tone as Maddie went over and patted her shoulder reassuringly “I'm sure you do dear, Sammi just tends to be aggressive is all. She didn't mean anything by it.” She whispers as the gothita just poofed her cheeks out and turned her head away… still keeping an eye on Rex.
Rex turned to look at Toni and Carrie for a moment before turning back towards his target and smiling, taking a sprint to reach the punching bag and tackling it hard enough to almost slam the ceiling. Pre-K and Maddie’s jaws dropped at this as Carrie grinned and chirped proudly “How's that for a Return? How's it?” prompting all of Pre-K to start clapping… even Sammi though her expression was a confusing mix of being surprised, conflicted, and... sad. Petie looked over to her and “You okay?” he asked which just made the dratini look away and mumble “Yeah, yeah... it was nice...”
“Rex loves friends alot, so Rex Return-“ the poochyena started to say, grinning happily… just as the bag swung back down and smacked him clear into the air to land in a heap a few feet away as Toni and Carrie shouted “Rex!!” and rushed to his side followed by the rest of Team Pre-K and Maddie. Rex just grunted “...strong.” as Carrie looked down at him concerned “Silly pup, you scared us! Scared us!” she chastised followed by Toni adding “Don't worry us like that! You should've seen it coming!”
“...Rex make... note of dat...”
Meanwhile Maddie was already applying basic first aid and poitions to Rex, pulling the supplies out of the duffle/baby bag she carried for Team Pre-K (seeing it Carrie couldn’t help but giggle despite the situation) as Rex snorted and whined a little due to the potion stinging as he looked to his friends “...sorry.” prompting Maddie to nudge him gently to get his focus “Hold still, this'll help you feel better.” She said in her typical caring but commanding big sister tone, continuing to tend to him as Rex complied and lay still.
There was a moment of quiet as Maddie patched Rex up before Sammi spoke “... if it means anything you were doing great till that part.” Which made the rest of the team to give her a confused look since she was being nicer than normal. Shaking it off Andrew looked to Rex “T-thanks f-for trying by the w-way. Chuu.” He stutted, giving Rex the best smile he could manage “E-even if you a-already have a t-team.” He finished as Jane dryly added “... and are too tall... I think.” Rex smiled back to them.
“...was fun...gonna need...more tar-gets...”
There was another confused silence as Pre-K looked to Toni & Carrie for an explanation. “I think he means” Toni said, looking around for a moment “that you might need more props at hand in case the actual candidates need targets for their moves. How many are you expecting anyway?” she asked as the team exchanged looks and another silence fell over them for a moment before Petie commented “They’ve got a point about props…”
“... to be honest we're just hoping some people will show up.” Maddie finally said as Toni looked at her confused “Why are you so unsure?” she asked as Petie once again chimed in “... cause one of the requierments is being under 4'8"” he explained as Toni puffed her chest out again “: So? With how big the student body is, there should be enough candidates around. In this gym alone there are seven who fulfill the requirement!” she said before pointing to Carrie “and even then only one stands taller than 4 feet. I do think some will show up, In fact...”
“Peeeeeeeeeeetieeeee!!!” the doors banged open and an eager female voice cut Toni off before she could go any further as a large kangaskhan all but flew into the room and scooped the teddiursa up in a hug. Due to the girl being tall, shapely, and having long hair everybody assumed it was Rose returned for a moment… till they saw the hair was blond, the girls proportions were different, and her low cut top revealed a pair of paw prints tattooed on her breasts as she snuggled Petie who had an utterly flat expression on his face as he said “Hello Light, what are you doing here?” in an exasperated and resigned tone.
“I’m here to give you and your team good luck hugs for the auditions!” she shouted happily as she scooped Jules and Andrew up into her arms and snuggled them. Maddie coughed lightly, knowing trying to talk Light out of this would be impossible “Um… maybe I best go get those props for the auditions while I can…” she said “Sammi, would you like to come…” she realized the dragon had bolted out the door a few seconds ago “… get the props and find Sammi… well this is turning out about as I expected…” Maddie sighed as she trotted out the door leaving Light to snuggle the trapped boys.

It’d been the first crisis they’d adverted for the auditions and they hoped the rest of it would go as smoothly.
There was a knock from the door, as a tall, muscular raichu girl stepped in, followed by a Persian girl who was carrying a heavy looking bag with her. "Can we come in yet?" the raichu asked with a light smile. Maddie blinked at the two as she looked up from shooing Petie away from the refreshments for the tenth time. She knew both of these mon in passing due to their connection with Pre-K so she smiled welcomingly "Abbie, Lauren, nice to see you. And of course but auditions don't start for another thirty minutes..." she paused and tilted her head a little "But I don't think you're here to audition are you?" she asked, since if they were they had obviously skipped reading the height requirements on the flyer... not to mention she wasn't sure if they were already in a team or not.
Abbie laughed and shook her head as Lauren made her way to the side with her bag. "No, we came to watch. And to see if there was anything we could help with." She folded her arms and looked to Andrew. "Choosing a new member isn't a small thing after all." there was a moment of silence at Abbie’s comment followed by “... that a bad attempt at a Joke?" Sammi asked before resuming cussing under her breath as she struggled with a folding chair that had taken her tail hostage. Andrew meanwhile blushed and shrunk a little under Abbie's gaze like a timid little brother afraid of shaming his older sibling.
Abbie shrugged and smiled. "I do often hear my sense of humor is kind of dry." She walked up to Andrew and kneeled down to his level. "Well, how are you feeling Andrew? You're taking another step forward with your team." The pichu squeaked and blushed furiously under the attention, cheeks sparking a little "D-d-does t-terrified c-count? Chuuuu..." he said timidly, looking down. Abbie smiled and patted his head gently. "It does. What is it that frightens you so?" Andrew blushed more at the head pats "... t-trying to pick out s-somebody.. .chuuu... w-who c-can help the team... t-trying to look like I k-know w-what I'm doing t-to the a-auditioners..." he admitted sounding a little ashamed.
Abbie smiled and lifted his chin. "That's why you aren't the only one deciding here. The three of you should come to a decision of what is a credit to the team. And I'd say you do know what you're doing." Andrew blinked a little "Wait... h-how'd you k-know t-there's be t-three people d-deciding chuuu?" he asked, tilting his head a little in confusion.
She giggled quietly and tapped his forehead lightly. "Simple deduction. Why else would you have set up three chairs behind the table? Quick analysis can tell quite a lot… that and I could hear Jules out in the hall.” Andrew blushed and giggled a little at that, ears twitching cutely. "That's better" Abbie smiled. "And I'll be here if you need advice or support." Andrew smiled happily and hugged the amazon raichu as best he could due to their sheer size difference "T-thank you chuu." She hugged him back. "Anytime, Andrew."

Meanwhile Lauren set her bag down in the corner and walked to Maddie. "Any estimates or hopes of how many will show up?" Maddie sighed a little as she worked to free a less than grateful Sammi "To be honest I'd be happy if as many as three showed up. I'm fairly worried the flyers might have gone unnoticed..." the miltank admitted. "Yeah" Lauren shrugged. "I saw some of them flyers. And frankly I'm thinking that the height requirement is a bit too wishful thinking..." A snort from the dratini got both their attention as Maddie gave a half amused smile and shrugged "They insisted.”
Lauren laughed and gave a narrow grin. "Of course. And speaking of insisting, I would've had better things to do today..." she sighed as she looked up. Maddie smiled slightly "Did Ashley ask you to come?" Lauren cocked an eyebrow. "Word gets around, huh?" The cow nodded and laughed softly "That and Andrew was very happy his cousin found somebody. Hard not to ask what's the reason when you see him in such an adorably good mood." she cooed, grinning a little.
Lauren chuckled quietly. "Aahh, Andrew, should have guessed. If it wasn't him spreading the news, I might be less happy about it." Maddie smiled at that "I can imagine..." she said "In the meantime would you mind terribly helping us set up? Sammi seems to have a slight problem with folding chairs..." the comment would have gotten a painful shin kick if anybody else had said it but the little dratini just snorted and looked away blushing angrily as Maddie smiled affectionately... and coughed to get Petie's attention as he'd snuck around behind her and was reaching for a cookie "Don't even think about it little mister." she said with an authoritarian tone... making the teddiursa pout and sulk away.
"Sure I can help" the persian shrugged. "Don't have much else to do until the auditions start..." Maddie smiled "Thank you." she said motioning to the folding chairs "We just have a few more to set out so it shouldn't take too long." Lauren nodded and started unfolding and setting the chairs, looking around a little. "A refreshment table? Class A host, aren't you?" she said while smirking slightly. Maddie blushed furiously at this "I'm just trying to be polite is all..." She laughed and shook her head. "Why none of my team auditions had these?"
Maddie just shrugged, not sure how to answer "Well I spent time last night making all these..." she said looking at the spread of treats not sure what more to say "... anyway would you like to hear how we plan on having the auditions work?" Lauren rolled her eyes, thinking for a second before nodding. "Sure. I was intending to take notes during the auditions anyway." Maddie nodded then tilted her head a little "Really? What for?" The persian gave her a slightly amused grin. "To have something to tell about. I'm not the most vocal supporter, but I do enjoy what the team does."
Maddie's smile grew at that "And I'm sure they appreciate your support." she said, folding out the last chair "As for how things will go the chairs are in case we get more than one applicant coming in at a time. We plan on having the auditioners stand in front of the table..." motions to the set up table where Jane was draping a table cloth over it to make it look more professional "introduce themselves, show their moves, and then have our judges... Andrew, Sammi, and Petie ask them a few questions. After which I'll take down their name and how to contact them. After everyone has auditioned the team will decide who they want and that'll be that."
Lauren nodded. "Simple enough. Let's hope this goes well." That got a laugh out of Maddie as she shook her head "I'm not optimistic enough to hope for that... I just hope that we can keep it from going too horribly wrong... in the meantime since it looks like we're done how about some snacks?" she said with a smile... as a certain teddiursa cheered happily.

Everybody had had a snack from the table, Petie & Jane unhappy they weren’t allowed seconds, and had settled into waiting till it was time for the festivities to start as Andrew sat in Abbie’s lap with Jane nearby, Lauren & Sammi were off by their lonesome in their own corners, Petie and Jules were playing rock, paper, scissors to pass the time, and Maddie was giving everything another once over to make sure it was all in place as they all were counting down the time with ten minutes left to go.
Just as the door opened and three figures entered… first was a poochyena boy who was walking on all fours like a feral as his nose twitched “Here it.” He said as a tiny gohtita girl waddled in after him, looking awkwardly at the mon in the room “Um, hello?” as the last of them, a perky looking yanma girl, stuck her head in to look around and immediately zipped over to Petie “Petie-P!? You here!? You here!?” she chirped eagerly as Petie blinked in surprise as he stuttered “Carrie? Toni? Rex? What are you doing here?” he asked as the rest of his team just looked on in confusion.
Toni the gothita pointed at the poochyena “Rex’s nose caught your scent.” She said as the grinning puppy added “And cookies.” Petie tilted his head a little at this “So you aren't here for the auditions...” he thought for a moment then looked up again “Anyway you guys are on a team already aren't you?” he asked as Jules giggled and waved to the little psychic and the dark type “Hi Toni! Hi Rex!” as the two waved back. Carrie the yanma nodded eagerly and smiled “Yep! We’re Team Happ-“
“Modern Fantasy.” Toni said, coughing to cut Carrie off as she waddled over to the group, Rex happily padding along behind her, and tilted her head a little “and did you say auditions? Wish I could help, but I am not very good at acting.” By now all of Team Pre-K and Maddie had noticed the gothita’s waddling and thanks to their knowledge of Petie and the rumors that’d been flying around had an idea about what it was… naturally Sammi was the one with the lack of tact to bring it up as she asked “... you're the student in diapers we've been hearing about aren't you?”
“Ignore her.” Petie said before Toni could get huffy and angry “And we're auditioning for a new alternate member of our team.” He added, talking fast to try and change the topic. This seemed to work as Rex’s face lit up “Oh? Can us stay, can us watch?” he asked as Toni shrugged and added “We are on break now, so if they do not mind we could stay. What do you say, Carrie?” she asked, looking to her bug friend… who just now seemed to be noticing the rest of Team Pre-K in the room “Tinies... tinies... all over the place...” she murmured, zipping high into the air so her compound eyes could take in everything better.
“… if she starts hugging anybody, especially me, there’s going to be murder.” Sammi muttered, eyeing Carrie before looking over at Rex “and who’s the talking dog?” This one prompted a reaction from Toni as she pouted softly and glared at Sammi for a moment before looking to Petie “Are you sure we are welcome? Few things are more unwelcoming than a snotty jerk who acts like she knows people and can rip them freely. I keep one at bay enough times a week.” She said as Rex, who seemed quite calm about this, looked to Toni and commented “Rex thinks dratini be grumpy.”
Petie rubbed the back of his head and looked away at that “... actually that's Sammi when she's in a normal mood.” He mumbled as Sammi snorted dismissively “All I did was ask questions. After all if you are the diaper girl I've won five bucks.” She said making Toni give a very flat expression as she dryly commented “...I do not know if being a gamble object should make me feel better or worse.” To which Sammi just shrugged “Worse probably.”
Meanwhile Carrie’s big bug eyes had locked on Andrew as she zipped right up to the pichu with an even bigger grin on her face “And you're the cutest cutie around! Forgive me Petie! I'm Carrie, what's your name, chubby chub!?” she cooed, making Andrew squeak in fear as Abbie pulled him away a little protectively and Petie sighed as he tugged on Carrie’s leg to get her attention “That's my team captain Andrew... please stop scaring him.” He said as the yanma blinked in surprise “I did? Sowwy... though dat makes him even cuter, teehee.” She gushed making both boys sigh as Andrew let out an exasperated “Chu…”
Sammi turned her attention to the bug, a disbelieving, slightly disturbed look on her face “... dear lugia it's the second coming of Kimmie...” she mutters… as Toni reflexively twitches at the mention of Kimmie’s name and glares at Sammi “D-don't compare Carrie with that abomination!!” she shouts as Sammi just rolled her eyes at little at the psychics display and shrugged “... so you know her? And fine... I'll apologize for that one, but only on the grounds NOBODY could be as bad as Kimmie.”
Meanwhile Rex seemed completely oblivious to the commotion going on around him as he padded over to Maddie and asked “How do Petie an' friends take auditions?” Maddie looked at him for a moment, a little perplexed and curious about the odd mon, but answered anyway “Well they're looking for a particular kind of fighter... so they were going to have the auditioners perform their moves for the judges, Andrew, Sammi, and Petie, and then they were going to ask a few questions...” she explained making Rex grin even more as his tail wagged and he spoke up eagerly.
“Oh... can Rex try!?”
There was a brief pause in the little circles of commotion in the gym as everybody looked as if they were trying to make sure they heard that right. Blinking in confusion Toni looked to her friend and asked the obvious question “...what!?” as Maddie tilted her head and looked even more confused “... um... aren't you already on a team?” Neither question did anything to dampen Rex’s spirit as he just smiled and nodded “Rex just want to try out, audition sound fun.”
There was a moment of silence followed by Andrew climbing down from Abbie’s lap and timidly saying “... chuuu... a t-test run m-might d-do some good...” which made Sammi roll her eyes “Fine, we got ten minutes to kill anyway.” As the whole team started to move and get into positions for their first audition. Toni, still a little stunned, climbed into one of the audience seats to get a good view as Carrie giggled and flew over to settled into the seat next to her. Rex cantered over to stand in front of the judges table, tail still wagging, as he asked “Do Rex start now?”
“Give them a minute to get ready dear.” Maddie giggled, amused at how eager Rex was. Andrew, Petie, and Sammi all headed to the table and climbed into their respective booster seats, taking a few moments to get situated and set up. Petie seemed the least confused about this since he knew Rex and was used to the puppy’s quirks while Andrew was visibly perplexed and Sammi just looked annoyed… like always. Like before if Rex could sense any of the confusion it did nothing to dampen his spirit as he smiled up to them “Do Rex start now? What do Rex do first?”
“First you can tell us why you talk like that and walk on all fours.”
“Sammi! We talked about this!”
“What!? It’s a decent question! Sides remember you told me I could ask any questions I wanted?”
“… I didn’t mean asking things like that… there are more tactful ways to ask those things…”
Rex’s friendly and eager demeanor only slightly diminished at the question as he waited for Sammi and Maddie to finish arguing before he responded in a dry tone “Born like this, Rex used to it. Rex can still fight good.” He finished as Petie & Andrew looked to Sammi to see how she’d react. Sammi sat for a moment before giving a slight smile that for once wasn’t condescending or mocking “Fine, show me and I'll believe it.” She said in a tone that sounding like she was actually interested “Show us what you can do.” Petie and Andrew blink in utter confusion and exchanged stunned looks at this reaction.
“Okay, shiny head.” Rex said, his eyes glow faintly as he teased Sammi, Toni snickering a little in the audience… as the rest of Pre-K went pale. The electricity of an anger created Thunder-Wave crackled overs Sammi’s body as she gave Rex a genuine death glare “Don't. Go. There.” She said in a furious and barely restrained tone… as Petie and Andrew frantically scooted their chairs away from her.
“Shiny head so shiny it sparkles!” Rex called merrily as he continued the Taunt, Toni laughing from the seats. Maddie quickly stepped in so Sammi couldn’t see Rex around the cow’s large posterior as she whispered to the puppy “She WILL attack you if you keep that up, even with Taunt… which I’m guessing is what your using? She's as sensitive about that as you and your friend might be about your own issues... and she was being nicer than normal to you before...” she coughtly lightly, looking a little nervous “That and I think having to break up an actual fight would really derail the auditions so please...”
Rex tilted his head and whispered back” Rex need dratini attack… to show move…” he said, looking up at Maddie as she nodded “I know you wanted to show your Taunt but when Sammi gets angry she SAMMI NO!!” Maddie shouted as there was the sound of something leaping off a table to clear the large cow obstructing her view. On reflex Rex used Oder Sleuth to figure out which angle the dratini was coming from and leap out of striking range…
Just as Sammi’s tail SLAMMED down on the floor where Rex had been hard enough to echo throughout the gym, Lauren jumped from her corner and Maddie stepped forward, both about to try to break up the fight. Before they could Rex jumped forward to pin the tail with his paws and spoke in a collected tone “Rex sorry, calm please.” Which got him a headlock for his troubles as Sammi was visibly resisting genuinely trying to hurt the dark type as she growled through gritted teeth “You're not gonna mention THAT again, RIGHT?” as Rex took the headlock, even putting on a little show of being affected by it, in an attempt to appease the dratini “N-no, R-rex n-no say m-more t-that.”
“Good.” Sammi said bluntly, as she let Rex go before stomping back to the table muttering to herself something bout genetic conditions, proving yourself, and general angry gibberish. Getting back up Rex smiled to Maddie before looking back to the judges as Sammi climbed back into her booster seat “Rex show more moves?” he asked as Andrew sighed, visible relieved that hadn’t turned into a brawl “Y-yes please chuuu...” he said as Rex grinned broadly, his mouth glowing with faint dark energy, as he asked.
“Toss Rex stick please.”
There was a moment of silence as all of Pre-K, minus “Oblivious-to-social-awkwardness” Jules, looked a little uncomfortable with a request like that coming from somebody like Rex. Even Maddie seemed a little uncomfortable with it as she looked to Toni and Carrie to see if he was serious. Before they could answer Jules managed to dig up a baton some absentminded cheerleader had left in the gym and threw it to Rex “Here you go, catch!” he chirped, tail wagging just as much as Rex’s since he wanted to see what the poochyena would do.
Leaping into the air like a dog catching a Frisbee Rex caught the baton out of the air and utterly crushed it into shards as he bit down, having to spit them out as he landed. Andrew and Petie sat wide eyed and impressed before clapping along with the rest of Team Pre-K… minus Sammi who was trying to hide being impressed and dryly commented “... well, hope whoever owned that doesn't come looking for it anytime soon...”
From the audience Toni puffed her chest out a little, smiling proudly at hearing the clapping “Well, it might look silly, but we train that Bite a lot. Aaaand it is not even his strongest move.” She said boastfully… as Carrie giggled and said “Though you could put a lil' bit of that effort in your own moves.” Which took the wind right out of Toni’s sails as she shrunk back down in her seat and blushed “...that was uncalled for...” she mumbled, prompting Carrie to hug her.
Sammi rolled her eyes at this “... less you’re the one breaking batons in half with your teeth don't get braggy little miss pampers.” She said which made Petie glare at her as she just shrugged in response “What? She wants to brag she can come down here and show what she can do. Right now it's the pup's turn.” Causing Jules to poke his head up between her and Andrew “Me?” he asked… as Sammi groaned and put her face in her hand “The OTHER pup... Rex, right?” she asked, looking to make sure she got his name right.
“Right.” Rex said, body stiffening as he gathered energy and set his sights on a nearby punching bag. Meanwhile Toni hung her head a little and mumbled “...and I try...” in a barely audible tone as Maddie went over and patted her shoulder reassuringly “I'm sure you do dear, Sammi just tends to be aggressive is all. She didn't mean anything by it.” She whispers as the gothita just poofed her cheeks out and turned her head away… still keeping an eye on Rex.
Rex turned to look at Toni and Carrie for a moment before turning back towards his target and smiling, taking a sprint to reach the punching bag and tackling it hard enough to almost slam the ceiling. Pre-K and Maddie’s jaws dropped at this as Carrie grinned and chirped proudly “How's that for a Return? How's it?” prompting all of Pre-K to start clapping… even Sammi though her expression was a confusing mix of being surprised, conflicted, and... sad. Petie looked over to her and “You okay?” he asked which just made the dratini look away and mumble “Yeah, yeah... it was nice...”
“Rex loves friends alot, so Rex Return-“ the poochyena started to say, grinning happily… just as the bag swung back down and smacked him clear into the air to land in a heap a few feet away as Toni and Carrie shouted “Rex!!” and rushed to his side followed by the rest of Team Pre-K and Maddie. Rex just grunted “...strong.” as Carrie looked down at him concerned “Silly pup, you scared us! Scared us!” she chastised followed by Toni adding “Don't worry us like that! You should've seen it coming!”
“...Rex make... note of dat...”
Meanwhile Maddie was already applying basic first aid and poitions to Rex, pulling the supplies out of the duffle/baby bag she carried for Team Pre-K (seeing it Carrie couldn’t help but giggle despite the situation) as Rex snorted and whined a little due to the potion stinging as he looked to his friends “...sorry.” prompting Maddie to nudge him gently to get his focus “Hold still, this'll help you feel better.” She said in her typical caring but commanding big sister tone, continuing to tend to him as Rex complied and lay still.
There was a moment of quiet as Maddie patched Rex up before Sammi spoke “... if it means anything you were doing great till that part.” Which made the rest of the team to give her a confused look since she was being nicer than normal. Shaking it off Andrew looked to Rex “T-thanks f-for trying by the w-way. Chuu.” He stutted, giving Rex the best smile he could manage “E-even if you a-already have a t-team.” He finished as Jane dryly added “... and are too tall... I think.” Rex smiled back to them.
“...was fun...gonna need...more tar-gets...”
There was another confused silence as Pre-K looked to Toni & Carrie for an explanation. “I think he means” Toni said, looking around for a moment “that you might need more props at hand in case the actual candidates need targets for their moves. How many are you expecting anyway?” she asked as the team exchanged looks and another silence fell over them for a moment before Petie commented “They’ve got a point about props…”
“... to be honest we're just hoping some people will show up.” Maddie finally said as Toni looked at her confused “Why are you so unsure?” she asked as Petie once again chimed in “... cause one of the requierments is being under 4'8"” he explained as Toni puffed her chest out again “: So? With how big the student body is, there should be enough candidates around. In this gym alone there are seven who fulfill the requirement!” she said before pointing to Carrie “and even then only one stands taller than 4 feet. I do think some will show up, In fact...”
“Peeeeeeeeeeetieeeee!!!” the doors banged open and an eager female voice cut Toni off before she could go any further as a large kangaskhan all but flew into the room and scooped the teddiursa up in a hug. Due to the girl being tall, shapely, and having long hair everybody assumed it was Rose returned for a moment… till they saw the hair was blond, the girls proportions were different, and her low cut top revealed a pair of paw prints tattooed on her breasts as she snuggled Petie who had an utterly flat expression on his face as he said “Hello Light, what are you doing here?” in an exasperated and resigned tone.
“I’m here to give you and your team good luck hugs for the auditions!” she shouted happily as she scooped Jules and Andrew up into her arms and snuggled them. Maddie coughed lightly, knowing trying to talk Light out of this would be impossible “Um… maybe I best go get those props for the auditions while I can…” she said “Sammi, would you like to come…” she realized the dragon had bolted out the door a few seconds ago “… get the props and find Sammi… well this is turning out about as I expected…” Maddie sighed as she trotted out the door leaving Light to snuggle the trapped boys.
