The deer that live in our almond orchard have started to give birth. I saw a set of twins yesterday that may have been a few days old. But today.....as I was coming up our rather steep dirt driveway through the orchard there was a momma doe and her really new set of twins right on the uphill side where there is a rather steep embankment. I was putting my bike up the hill and the mother just kept licking the one fawn's butt till I was about 10 feet away then jumped up on the embankment. One of the fawns scrambled after her but the other tried to jump, couldn't make it, and landed in a heap right next to me....about 3 feet to my side....and lay there as I slowly rode by. It was soooooo beautiful and precious!!! I walked back down with my camera and this is the best shot I could get of them for now. I'm sure I'll get plenty more chances as time goes by.
I just love seeing these pairs of twins!! <3
