"If you've cared for a soul before, it means you've been trapped on Earth before, right?" She nodded. "Then wouldn't you know how to try and keep away from things that would bring you back?"
The creature before me smiled, padding up through the grass to sit in front of me. Her bright green eyes gazed up into mine as she placed a paw upon my knee. The tiny little scales that lined her paw pads scraped ever so gently upon my jeans. "After you've cared for thousands of stars, the bond we create with a host soul is unlike any other. Our hearts and strength go into our love for you, and though we must return in the end, we always take our host soul with us. And you will be given new life as a new star."
She climbed into my lap, in order to rest her paw against my cheek, and her smile warmed my heart. "But once we've experienced this bond, it is not something we forget. I heard you cry. I did not fall to Earth by accident, like many StarKeepers in our lore. You were calling me, though not by name. Your soul reached out to me, I knew I was needed, and I came. I will remain here, until your time comes to move on, and when I return home, I will release you as a new life. You will live on, and I will continue to protect you. And one day, you will join us, and hopefully do the same for another life such the one you are now."
I couldn't do much more but look at her, and my eyes shifted to the star-shaped jewel embedded into her forehead. I remembered what she had told me, about how a StarKeeper is born in the heart of a nova, and realized that one day, I would join the Keepers. I wondered how many host souls she cared for, and realized that it had probably been centuries since she had actually been thrown from a comet. But now, she was my soul, and I was hers. That's all that matters.
This wonderful piece was drawn for me as a long-standing trade by
Urban-Coyote.
The story above and the picture do not go together 100%, but it represents the bond between a host soul and a StarKeeper. The Keeper in the picture is the same Keeper as the story, but the people are different. The person in the story is me. And I truely believe that when my time comes, Siri will do what she has always done, and one day I will join them.
StarKeeper species belong to me. You can find their story here --> LINK
