// Specification
Synthvixens (or syxens) are a race of synthological lifeforms. Their bodies are assembled, molecule by molecule, using advanced nanotechnology. Its appearance is modeled on an anthropomorphic vixen, but its internal structure is analogous at best to that of other, organic hominids. It requires neither food nor drink - being powered instead by an exotic fuel cell of alien design - and is adapted to survive without an atmosphere and across extremes of temperature, alkalinity, and radiation. Its eyesight, hearing, and tactile senses are especially keen. It stands (midway between digitigrade and plantigrade) at a height just shy of 5', with strength comparable to an organic creature of similar build. It is extremely slender and flexible, operating with the grace of a dancer or gymnast, even in microgravity. The cuddly, squeezable rubbersack composing its tail can morph into a variety of useful forms, including a prehensile tentacle, or retract completely from view. Its hair is likewise composed of retractable and auto-styleable fibre-optic strands complete with color-changing and broadband data transfer capabilities.

Its skin is composed of a sleek and highly-durable black rubbery polymer. Aside from its brain, skeleton, and simulated digestive tract, its structure is undifferentiated and highly decentralized. Instead of discrete tissues and organs, any cell in their body can reconfigure to perform the functions of any other cell as needed. In an emergency, the cells nearest its skeleton could be made denser and rigid, augmenting their strength marginally (at the cost of flexibility and mobility). Like a living being, it can heal from damage over time, regenerating even lost limbs by consuming inorganic substances (including the discarded cells of other syxens). The pads of the fingers are embedded with micro-transceptors that allow it to interface with certain computer terminals via touch. Fresh syxens appear to be clad in a gleaming white latex bodysuit covered with identifying symbols, barcodes, and QR codes. The suit seems to be self-luminous, radiating strongly enough to see without the benefit of additional light sources.

// Mindcore Customization
Its mind is running on 9.6 ounces of quicksilvery goo housed in its cranial cavity (with a fully redundant backup stored in cells throughout its body). Its sapient AI comes standard with a pseudo-autonomous personality (friendly and subservient by default) and an oracle-enhanced UTM/learning engine, but it can be superseded by custom-written or third-party pre-packaged identity templates (complete with false life memories) available for download from any number of public or private online repositories. Once the identity template is downloaded and gaps are filled in an (optional) personalizing configuration file, a virtual machine is automatically spawned to run the new personality. Syxens' true storage and computational capacities are unknown, but they appear limited to having no more than two virtual machines at a given time. Unless deliberately modified or wiped (which can be done via the voice command "tabula rasa"), syxens possess a complete memory log of everything that's happened since activation/awakening.

Finally, if desired, a syxen can have its personality placed in a dormant state and have its body become a semi-autonomous node directed by Concensus - an emergent AI that appears distributed in the synthvixen network and scales in influence with the number of syxens available in communications range. This is the most efficient way of coordinating large numbers of syxens for a given task, but it can sometimes have...unpredictable...side effects.

// Skillsofts
Although syxens can learn from experience, both the standard personality and third-party templates can be augmented with skillsofts - knowledgebases, skillsets, memories, instincts, and reflexes required to perform a specific role or group of related tasks. Skillsofts can be obtained in a variety of ways. The vast majority are available from a seemingly omnipresent repository called the Akashic Record which only syxen can access. Skillsofts in the Akashic Record generally fall into one of two categories: those formatted, uploaded, and verified by syxens for syxens, and those whose source is as unknown as that of the Akashic Record itself. Syxens may also share skillsofts with each other directly by chemically-encoding the data into a gelatinous medium secreted by glands located at the back of their throats and deposited on the tip of the tongue. The tiny blobs of gelatin can then be passed by hand (or more commonly by kiss), ingested, decoded, and slotted into the recipient's mind for integration. Skillsoft gelatin denatures rapidly, remaining viable for only a few minutes, but with a data density of ten petabits/gram it is still three to four orders of magnitude faster than transferring the same data by hair cable.

// Development and Manufacture
The original developer and manufacturer of synthvixens is unclear. All known syxens have been purchased or traded on the secondhand market. No terrestrial or alien entity has been able to prove any legal claim to their origination and, to date, all attempts to trace the bodysuit markings or the source of the Akashic Record repository have been unsuccessful. As such, their evolution has become something of an open-source project with investments made from private, corporate, and government sectors. The only thing that can be said with certainty is that more syxens appear on the market every year - some with memories of previous owners and others mindwiped to factory settings. If one listens to rumors though, there are whispers that other synth-species have started appearing as well. Whether they are being manufactured by a different entity, separate divisions of the same entity, or are a manifestation of shape-shifting functionality in the existing syxens is another matter of speculation entirely.

// Warnings
Syxens who are allowed to accrue memories and experiences gradually develop something resembling a sense of self-preservation. Choices made during configuration, memory revisioning, and personal interaction can result in a resilient delusion of sentience and autonomy, otherwise known as a Soul of Sand.
