Southern Dragons are shy and easily-spooked creatures and are rarely mentioned in Stories and are sometimes shown in some art, looking similar to their Western cousins.
Southern Dragons are usually Neutral beings, almost never choosing between good or evil, with a few exceptions. This is in contrast to Chinese dragons, which are traditionally depicted as more benevolent creatures, and Western Dragons, who are usually portrayed as Evil beings. The Southern Dragon is typically seen in a variety of sizes, scaly, sometimes horned, lizard-like creatures that can withstand extreme temperatures, from scolding hot to freezing cold; This creature also has leathery thick skin, two to four legs, long wings, and a thick, muscular tail that is tipped with some sort of additional limb of sorts (Like a fin or some spikes for example). Some depictions also shows some Southern Dragons with crests, fin-like manes, ivory spikes running down its spine and body, and various exotic decorations.
The typical Southern Dragon hides and protects a dugged-out hole into the ground, sand, or snow. It usually uses this as a temporary home, but if conditions are well, it can make it a permanent home for itself as well as its future young. The older the dragon, the larger it becomes (This condition is called "Indeterminate Growth"). Also, the older it becomes, the more it can handle extreme temperatures (Some can live in icy mountains and fiery volcanoes). They are usually found alone, rarely seen in more then 3 individuals during one time. The only time they are ever in groups is when mating season occurs.
Though a winged creature, the Southern Dragon seldom flies, and usually glides or swims, conserving most of their energy. These dragons can be found in most regions throughout the world.
