Almost lost our house (G)
Last night, Jesse and I were making soup, it was hot in the kitchen so I opened the window. After half hour, Jesse mentioned smelling smoke and asked me to go look outside to see where it was coming from. I went and checked and saw the neighbors house (which is connected to ours) was on fire.
I ran in and told him that it was our house and called fire dept. Jesse ran out, hopped a 6ft fence, and ran up the stairs in his boxers to put it out. After a few minutes he managed to get it out, it was pretty bad. He inhaled smoke and suffered a few burns from it.
Apparently before the neighbors left for work, they left an over filled can of cigarette butts on their porch and started the fire. If I hadent opened the window, and Jesse didn't smell the fire.. it could have been a lot worse. They had propane tanks up there and the firemen said it could have consumed our entire house in no time.
The firemen told Jesse he did a good job, and I would have to agree. I'm so thankful for it and glad he is there for me. The neighbors had a dog in their house too, they could have lost their dog and everything just like we would have. It was such a scary time, like living my worst nightmare. Something I never want to experience again.
