completely irrelevant to any and everything but something i constantly think about/joke with friends about wrt furry worlds is the presence of meat & foodstuffs. im interested in the idea of "meat" in an anthro world being imitation/synthetic meat that emulates the different kinds of meat we have irl (beef, pork, lamb/goat, fish, etc.) to sate carnivores/omnivores specifically. but then you have to ask: how recent of an invention would imitation meat be in an anthro world? does it require heavy machinery and food processing technology to create? would it be seen as a faux pas to eat it in the presence of animal species that would usually constitute prey? has it been accepted as commonplace? does it come about after centuries of animals being eaten (and does this imply some kind of animal evolution in which different species looked just like their irl equivalents before standing on two legs and talking) and who would have come up with this idea? what are the intricacies of how this imitation meat is made on an industrial level? what are the sociopolitical implications of an anthro world that produces imitation meat for the sake of feeding (much of) its population? if you bought a bacon & egg sandwich from a fast food place, and the cashier & chef were a sow and a hen respectively, would you feel an impulse to apologize? and to whom? no pigs died (presumably) to make that imitation bacon, but chickens still lay infertile eggs that can be eaten, and how does that work at an industrial level to facilitate a market for it? or is it something that can be done via volunteering? would you eat imitation bacon and wonder what the real thing tastes like, stealing passing glances at that cashier while she deals with the next customer?
