How I feel about my art (Feel free to respond!)
General | Posted 5 years agoHi everyone! This is my first journal.
I figured I would use this journal to talk about art, and how I feel about it. In particular, I want to talk about my personal experience with art.
First off, art is super hard for me to do nowadays!
But when I was a kid, art was easy. I drew stick figures and abstract illustrations. But I never felt that my art was inadequate. In fact, I’m sure that most of us as kids never saw our art projects or drawings as inadequate, we just enjoyed doing what we did!
But there was a long lapse between my art then and my art now. Once I was done with elementary school, I basically never drew again until I started college a couple years ago. But I was developing an idea for a story that motivated me to put my ideas on paper, and that’s what made me want to draw again.
However, that meant that I had to learn how to draw not just humans, but animals and mythological creatures. I’ve consulted many drawing guides and used many digital programs to recreate my ideas from scratch, but I still feel like I am just not able to create art using my own imagination, and that I rely too heavily on using the work of others to draw shapes. For example, if I wanted to draw a bird’s wing, I’d use a background reference of an wing that someone else sketched to draw that wing myself, since I tend to forget the exact appearance of a wing.
I have already developed my art drawing style, but I just don’t know how to improve, or where to begin.
Also, I’m having trouble learning how to motivate myself to do better.
Does anyone have any advice?
