anti-drama_llama_movement When did you start drawing?
Apparently, according to both my late Mother and my sister,I was scribbling and doodling by the time I was about three years old or so...I recently found a drawing I must have done at about age four or five...it's a "map" of New York city which I drew with a red ball-point pen...yeah,I was a pretty odd kid from the get-go.
Which hand do you use for drawing?
Right-handed,all my life.
Which is easier to draw - male or female?
I really can't really say that one is more difficult than the other.Male and female anatomy have their similarities and their distinct differences, right down to the way each moves,so each gender presents it's own unique challenges in drawing.
Which is easier to draw - long hair or short hair?
Again,I'm comfortable with either, although I will say,I make an extra effort with hair because drawing convincing hairstyles on Anthro characters is very challenging and not as easy as it looks. As I'm fond of saying, you don't want your characters looking like animals with bad wigs.;D
Is it easier to draw the head facing towards the right or the left?
Again,I've never encountered any great difficulty with either.
Is it easier to draw the side view of the face or the front view?
I will say that at times,I've had a bit of difficulty drawing faces from the front, but I think I've improved on that over the years.
What do you have problems in drawing?
I would have to say that I still struggle a bit with hands.I may be mistaken, but I don't think there is an artist out there who has not had a problem with hands at one time or another,it's just one of the many areas of anatomy where I feel you never stop learning.Muscle groups are another area that I am constantly working to improve on in my art.A good example is,of course,Alex from Ace and Queenie.Alex is this tall strapping, muscular guy who comes darn close to the "Superhero" body type, but I still try to keep his physique somewhat within the realm of what is possible.I don't care at all for the Liefeld/Lee style of what I would call "made-up muscles".My other somewhat "weak" area is,I would say, mechanical drawing-accurately rendering things like vehicles,aircraft,weaponry,etc.-I really want to improve in that area-one of my favorite Manga-Ka is Takao Saito, the creator of GOLGO 13. I am just in awe of how he draws everything from cars to guns to real-life locales with such incredible detail and precision.
What do you like to draw?
I am ACHING to start turning out some really good comics again. As much as I love doing pinup and cheesecake,I feel I've been in a "pinup rut" for far too long...please,somebody poke me with a stick and don't stop until I'm productive with my comics again!
Are you a traditional artist or a digital artist?
100% organic,as I like to say.Traditional all the way.
Where do you start drawing from?
Like my friend
, “Traditional ‘T’”.
What is your drawing habit that you are aware of?
I have a habit of working on two or three different pieces at once, switching between them every couple of hours or so.
Any tips for coloring/shading?
Don't be afraid to experiment, simple as that. Some of my best color work has resulted from the use of cheap-ass markers from CVS or somewhere.
How long does it take to finish a piece of art?
Depends largely on the level of detail and the number of characters, things like that.I've had bursts of inspiration where I'd turn out a finished color piece in 3-5 hours, other days I've felt so crappy that it's taken me half a day to just get a sketch so that I'm happy with it.
What music do you listen to while you draw?
whatever strikes my fancy at the moment.I will say that I seem to get a lot of inspiration listening to Anime STs.
How long does it take you to come up with an idea?
Ideas come to me fairly quickly, sometimes completely out of nowhere, and then they will sit in the middle of my brain and scream at me until I get them onto paper.I swear, doing art is the closest that a man can come to knowing what it's like to give birth.
Your favorite drawing utensils?
For drawing-HB pencils, inking pens like Artlines, Staedtlers, Microns, Pitt brush pens. For color-Prismas, Sharpies, Bic Mark-its, and Rosearts.
Your favorite color/the color that you use a lot?
I love all colors, but my particular favorites are blues and greens, and different shades of purple...I also feel that black and white art has a unique beauty all it's own that people don't always recognize.
Your favorite style(s)?
Having worked extensively with licensed properties during my career,I've become a pretty quick study when adapting to the different styles in which different characters are drawn. Personally,my favorite style is the look of the classic American adventure comic strip,as personified by giants such as Milton Caniff, Alex Raymond, Lee Falk and Doug Wildey. I'm also in love with the Anime/Manga style, and wish I could do more work in that realm.
Are you satisfied with your current art?
I think I've come a long, long way since I started doing this seriously some 20+ years ago,but I have no desire to get complacent or "rest on my laurels"...I want to do so much more and improve as much as I can.I'm getting older, and my health isn't the best, but I hope and pray that I can keep working and be as productive as I can for as long as I can.
What kind of artist are you aiming for?
See above.

I know he's still drawing like crap isn't he Rusty?
Is he holding someone's kids hostage or something. This guy has no talent. Yet the talentless keep overruling.
What does that mean?
Interesting quiz!
I found this a few months ago http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i.....o/WIPS/1-1.jpg I think I was 5 or 6. There's WAR outside the penguin house. (yes those things are penguins X_X)
Speaking of comics, I haven't given up on that idea I had about Korestai, if you're still interested. It's getting pretty funky, bit by bit.
"Ideas come to me fairly quickly, sometimes completely out of nowhere, and then they will sit in the middle of my brain and scream at me until I get them onto paper."
my ideas come out of nowhere, too, sometimes they foster there for months, throwing bubbles like an evil swamp, until I find the time to put them onto paper.
head people are beautiful, aren't they? :)
oh, PITT brush pens. I use them too (of course more dilletanteous than you). I always thought you'd use a real brush for certain areas of black. ^^ did you know Faber has a brush pen out which diameter exceeds anyone's thumb? but still the brush tip is the same. ^^
