I (as a white person) don't think that it's a good idea.. If it doesn't have anything to do with you or your culture it seems like you're just taking something 'cool' from another culture and decorating yourself with it without having to deal with the consequences. Think about how black children/adults are kicked out of school and work for having dreads/natural hair whereas white teens are now wearing them (destroying their hair in the process because our hair doesn't have the texture needed to hold a proper dread. our hair gets matted and white 'dreads' get mold in them!!) to look trendy without having to deal with discrimination.
Also neck tattoos aren't really accepted in the workplace unless you're in an industry where 'creativity' like that is encouraged and they're very hard to hide unless you plan on having long hair and only ever wearing it down at work (making sure it covers the back of your neck completely!). I got shoulder/upper back tattoos on a whim when I turned 18 from the first place I could find and I really kind of regret it. I wish I had given myself a little bit more time to think about what I really wanted. I just wouldn't want anyone else regretting something they spent a lot of money on and will be there forever.
Are there any other ideas you had for your first tattoo? Maybe an animal you've always liked or maybe a flower? If you're still unsure you could try googling '____ tattoos' and shopping around for a style/artist you like. I've decided for myself that any future tattoos I get will probably look best in 'traditional' style just because it feels like it fits more than hyper realistic tattoos or cartoony ones. What would necessarily be the consequences? My father has a tattoo of a Simurgh (he grew up on an American base in Iran during the 1950s-60s) and I've seen someone actually praise him in public for understanding the Iranian culture. So I kinda figured cultural symbols were ok as long as you weren't disrespecting them.
The field I'm interning in now has very open feels when it comes to tattoos. You have to be suited up most of the day because it involves handling dangerous chemicals/bacterias. Also my hair is rather long, and I dont intend on cutting it anytime soon. However I'm aware my work could change since I'm only interning.
I dont want a super clique tattoo, and honestly I'm pretty open as to getting whatever as long as it fits me

It's great to hear your field is open to tattoos!! (that stuff about the handling of dangerous chemicals is very cool too!) On the subject of your fathers tattoo, I think it makes sense for him to have gotten something to reflect the culture he was a part of for so long. It was a big chunk of his life and I think the one he got honoring that is different from getting a symbol from another culture for aesthetic purposes? I'm definitely not an expert on any of this and I'm not trying to shame you out of getting a tattoo you want. Like I said, I'm white so I've never been affected by cultural appropriation, I guess I'm more reciting what I've heard POC say on the subject. I know that personally, no matter how cool I thought a symbol from another culture was or how much I've read about it.. a part of me would still feel like I was doing something wrong by getting a tattoo of it. It just doesn't feel like I would have the right to wear something like that on my skin because I'm so far away from the rest of the culture. Feels like I'd be cherry-picking one cool thing about something without understanding any of the other parts of it. Ultimately it's your body so of course, you can do anything you want with it. I really hope I'm not coming off as a tattoo-snob or something because I totally think that people should get whatever they want. :P
