First off, obligatory "I'mnotdeadandwhatnot". I would use this site a lot more if I was a good artist or somethin, but even if I haven't posted stuff in a looong time, be you sure I check this site more or less daily!
Okay, but what's whit the fancy title of the journal then?
Well!
It just so happens the university-faculty of Music Technology where I study, have a student trip every second year. This time around it happened to be Berlin. The trip was very exiting, lasting almost a week, and we did a whole bunch of stuff. Sightseeing, museums, being at presentations at some music companies and universities, being at the "Superbooth" music-technology-related exhibition, trying out various resturants, hanging around in bars and...
"Why is this relevant here?"
...Wait! I was about to get to that point!
Back at NordicFuzzCon 2016, I picked up one of many flyers which were spread around the place. This was a particular event called the "Berlin Furdance". Coincidently this was to take place during our stay in Berlin! So I went there, telling a few people in my class that I was going "to a rave party with cosplayers". I've only talked to 2 people in my class about the furry comunity, so I didn't exactly want to scream in everyone's faces that "Hey! I'm going to a FURPARTY tonight!!!".
Still, I posted a link on facebook to the excellent "5 Common Misconceptions People Have About Furries" article by Dr. Courtney "Nuka" Plante, at 4AM in the morning, some days before the event.

Most of my class went to party pretty hard at some Karaoke bar, as well as the proffessors and lectors. I decided to take it easy and sleep early, to prepare for the furdance/party.

Almost everybody missed breakfast, except me and two other. After breakfast we three went walking in the park by Brandenburger Tor, then for a demonstration at the Music Instrument Museum, and a fourth student joined for a walk by the remaining part of the Berlin Wall. After that we split up and I went to the Computer Games Museum just next to James June where I met some other people from my class. Afterwards we walked the entire Karl Marx Allee. I then split from the rest of the group to find some place to eat, before making my way back to James June.
Due to not knowing if my class had plans for the evening, I did not really plan to participate at the dance when I left Norway. My original plan was to just drop by, and leave some flyers for NordicFuzzCon 2017 by the entrance. Because of this I did not bring any of my badges! What a shame D:
When I arrived, furries had started to gather as the sun was setting. I had been walking for roughly 15 kilometers since breakfast, and I really had to rest my feet. Therefore I sat down by the entrance. The situation in itself was kinda weird as well. Allthough I have been in the fandom for 4 years now, I for the most part only know Norwegian and Swedish furries. In other words I knew nobody, and after asking some short technical questions ("When does it open? etc.") I got the impression that quite a few seemed to have problems speaking english.
This combination caused my social insecureness to trigger, and for quite some time I was just sitting silent by the entrance, not really knowing how to break the ice at all. And what a quite some time that was, because of delays! Some kind of card-printer broke or something. I spent the time drawing an emergency badge on a piece of paper. Eventually a furry sat down a few meters next to me, but I was still too insecure to approach him for a good half an hour.
Anybody that know me, will know I'm terrible with names! I did write some names down, but I did not have enough time to memorize it well enough D: If you recognize a description of a person here, please give a shoultout and I can change it. This will also help me remember it better in the future ^^
The fur I started talking to at the entrance was a cool guy. He had been traveling 300km to get there, and was there with a group. Eventually the rest of the group came about and we decided to stick together.
After sunset the line started moving, and the party got running! We situated ourself in the smoking area, drinking beer. Eventually LeTigre (:usereltigero:) came about, the one guy at the party I knew from before and one of the DJs for the evening.
Sometime after the beer, the Pizza arrived. Somebody had also brought out the glowsticks, and I got in talk with a guy having plenty of them on his everything. I put some on my lanyard.
Way too much pizza had been ordered, and around the third go, even the guy I was hanging with, who had not applied for pizza, got a piece! Anyways, after a bit I ended up on the dancefloor.
And you know what? I really have to finish my WIP suit. Being at a furry dance floor is cool, but being on one in fursuit is even cooler, or warmer depending on how you look at it.
Rest of the evening went pretty smooth. I had a talk with one who had been practicing a very good british dialect allthough being German, went back to the group in the smoking area, talked to THE Italian(?) milkman, and ended up with the glowstick guy and another guy next to the bar, discussing the deep questions in life.
In the end, at 2:00 AM, I really had to leave because I was to take an airplane during the sunday. I said goodbye to most people I had talked to, even to LeTigre who was DJ'ing some sick groove at the dance floor (I'm sorry I couldn't stay longer and fully dance to them), and headed for the hotel.
Apparently all the glowsticks woke up one of my classmates when I entered the room xD
I had a great time, and met quite a few new faces! This event might have been the result of a lucky coincidence in my case, so it's sadly highly unlikely I can come next year. Still, I'd love to keep contact with all the new people I met.
P.S. If you have or find a picture of me, please poke me a note or somethin!
