~Posting as myself, gazi ~
So I just wanted to write a post explaining the ideas behind Gazi and why he is my main fursona.
Back in 2012 I was interested in furries and I was looking up the fandom online. It was late 2012 when I decided to try my hand at drawing furries and creating animal characters. Gazi and his sister Emoxie were two generic canines I drew up as a way to play with markings and colours, as I was drawing them I just got names in my head for them. The fringes/stripes/X aesthetic was just because that's the sort of typical DA fursona look and I like that stereotypical 'emo' style (yeah, Gazi is intended to be a toned-down Gloomdog)
I had a few anthro and animal characters I was drawing, but none of them were made to be fursonas. I did plan to create a separate specific fursona but no ideas stuck (I was thinking more along the lines of a bat or some small dog.) When I was going to AnthroCon 2013 I still had no real fursona and wanted to go with some sense of furry identity... and as Gazi was the character I felt most connected to he's the one I went with. When I first drew Gazi and Emoxie I didn't know if they looked more like wolves or dogs, so I decided they were wolfdogs. Later that year I went to a wolf and wolfdog rescue centre in Colorado and some of the wolfdogs there looked exactly as I imagined these two would look in real life (I also loved interacting with these animals) so I decided they just had to be wolfdogs like those (wolfXmalamute.)
Gazi is deeply rooted in my music tastes and creative side. He reflects the part of me that is obsessive and creative in a way. I'm also pretty Tom-Boyish and having a male fursona gives me a bit of an excuse to express this. He is also imbued with some of his own traits to make him separate from myself, he's a lot more relaxed about life and I'm not sXe (this is mostly a link back to his name-sake.)
The name "Gazi" is just a clipping of the band name "Fugazi" as that's what I was listening to when I drew him (the "William Shepard" part is a mix of Thursday references and was added as I wanted him to have a full name as Gazi seemed too short.)
Overtime he's become a big part of me, and I plan to keep him around for a long time. Hopefully one day I will have him as a fursuit (but I plan to wait until I have my own full time paying job first)
