So I am a memeber of carolinafurs and I went to my first ever meet and it was stressful trying to get my mother and father to understand and this porbably will be my last meet for a while as my parents are still freaking out about it and it sucks because they can't get passed the negative stigma of the fandom I tried to get them to understand but after 48 and 55 years they both are hard set that Furries are freaks and they probably dislike me now, anyways my first Fur meet was pretty cool even though it got rained out and we had to move to the mall and there were only 4 people other than my self and Crystal_Night but it was still cool meeting people even though I was super nervous and was really quiet for the most part, hope do do it again sometime.
It can take some time to warm parents up to the furry fandom for sure. Don't push it in their face too much, but I'd recommend trying to show some of the positives of the fandom to them over time, such as the fact that our conventions raise many thousands of dollars for various animal/wildlife charities every year, and the fact that we're mainly a group of artists, art appreciators, animal and nature lovers, and other creative types with a passion for self-expression, and that the fandom as a whole is very accepting and tolerant of different types of people, whoever or whatever you happen to identify as.
