Interesting or Dangerous Wildlife

So today while a friend and I were out doing some hiking deep in the forest, we had a fairly close encounter with a good sized cougar. It's really quite majestic how effortless they leap and bound over obstacles that we would otherwise have to struggle to climb. And to be less than a hundred feet from such a big wild animal that can take you out in a single pounce is quite invigorating. So what sort of interesting or dangerous wildlife have you guys run into while out and about?

I've never been up north, so have never seen elk or moose...and despite living in an area where bears getting into your trash is more common than raccoons getting into your trash, I've never seen a bear

I've always wanted to visit Oregon and Washington, it looks like such a beautiful place. And my BF is from Idaho, so one of these days I'll be dragged out there to see his kin and the state he grew up in
