Hey folks,
If you follow the news you may have heard about the Russian ruble getting devalued to about half it's original amount. A lot of Russian software and game companies haven't inflated their prices, so non regioned games (like eso) can be purchased at around half the cost after the converted price. This also applies to 60 day time cards, which as of the time i'm making this post, are 1099 RUR, or 17.75 with the current conversation rate. Yesterday it was even cheaper, but the value is volitile, so I don't know when prices will level out. You can use online conversation sites yo check the price though like http://www.bloomberg.com/quote/RUBUSD:CUR
Now, a disclaimer before I move onto the hows. Buying on foreign sites can be dangerous due to translation issues. If something is a scam you may not notice it because you're trying to understand the site. The best way to protect yourself in general is to use sites that accept money wallets or have secured transaction services that your bank endorses. Never use debit cards, as compared to credit cards they have no insurance. Also, Google a site snd enter in "scam" to check it. Ultimately, if you don't feel comfortable, DON'T DO IT. Yes your missing out on a deal but for some convience and security is more important.
The eso forum post: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.co.....e-beginning/p1 note that this was closed due to political debate and a concern that folks would not be careful when purchasing. They have no issues with accepting the time cards, and I used 3 tuesday without issue.
Now, if you're going to search on this, you can use the term “TESO – ТАЙМ КАРТА 60 ДНЕЙ” which is the Russian term for a 60 day game card.note that a lot of sites sold out when this first went live. Here is the site I used, but please be mindful of the price and it can change http://www.gameray.ru/the-elder-scr.....platy-60-dney/
Once you find the product the next step is checking it. Use Google translate to read text in English. Use Google and search for scams with the site. Also check web statistics for traffic. Heavily used sites tend to be legitimate, but again, use your best judgment. If your willing to gamble, make it a small one with a small purchasr, maybe only one game time card, to minimize any loses.
After checking it buying and paying for it. Again, avoid using credit cards and NEVER use debit. If at all possible use E-Wallets to make purchases. MaJoe ones to use include https://money.yandex.ru (russian equivalent to google), http://www.wmtransfer.com (a major money wallet site), and http://www.qiwi.us (another wallet site, though I have not tried this one, it's pretty major). Using one of these sites you want to send money to it. Just like paypal, if you send a enough money to these to make a purchase and something is comprised theY will not have direct access to bill any accounts, and malicious activities will bounce off. Going through these you also will not be involve any type of credit report, since they do not track enough info to make one. This is a method most folks should adopt when possible in purchasing things online.
If you want to use a credit card however, make sure to only use ones that verify through legitimate secure sites. One example is "www.securesuite.net" which handles a lot of online credit transactions. If you're not sure, Google it. Realize also you may be charged a dollar extra in foreign fee handling charges by most credit companies. Insurance will cover any issues with compromised cards if you do make a mistake, but please check your balance regularly to make sure (always s good practice)
Hopefully this wasn't too intimidating and those that have the will and know how can try to get a deal. For everyone else, well, hopefully you learned something new in online purchasing and protecting yourself =3.
Also, you CAN buy other games like this, but MOST are region locked. Steam has even started to restrict trading due to this. ESO has only 2 servers so it's not locked. This can apply to wow time cards as well. If you're doing this with other games be very careful to check if it's locked. Most Steam and Origin games will be.
